Aw, poor Duffy was probably choking on the fumes while being confined. Maybe the seller put him in a Downy scented trash bag to protect him in case the box got ripped? My Jumbo Shellie had an odor from that but the seller stated that since in the upper peninsula of Michigan it was snowing when she mailed her, she wrapped her that way in case anything happened to give Jumbo Shellie an extra layer of protection.

After a few days of airing out in my house (I don't smoke or burn candles, or even use air freshener), she is fine unless you totally sniff her (so probably in another few days she'll be fine). Anyway, I also ordered some teddy bear clothes from a storefront business (not someone selling them out of their house; this is a real store) and was dismayed to find that they reeked of smoke! Airing them out helped, but when I put an outfit on Shellie May for a photo shoot and then took it off her 30 minutes later, Shellie May was unhappy because now her fur smelled.

Anyway, if you spray Febreeze in the air but not on Duffy himself and then already be holding Duffy with the free hand that doesn't have the Febreeze bottle, you can whisk him through the mist without getting too much on him. Twirl him around and let it dry; should help. Good luck!

Suggestions only...take at your own risk. Rub him with baking soda, let him sit a while. Wash him and add vinegar to the rinse. Then hang him outside to dry. Maybe leave him out there a few days?

Poor guy was stuffed in a box with no air holes! I don't want to traumatize him further. He is currently "airing" outside. Hoping that helps. I want to hug the little guy-but I can't get near him without coughing.

I'm rooting for him! Good luck and let us know if his health improves!

Let him "air out" for at least a few days.

So there's no "Hippie Duffy" available for sale? I was imagining dreadlocks and a funky smell.

Well, there were "shaggy" Disney Bears when they came out. They had longer fur and kind of looked like they just rolled out of bed, but I wouldn't call them hippies!

Shaggy is a good way to describe him. I only mentioned the "long hair" because of the fur difference. (And the poor fellow has hair/fur in his eyes). I totally love him. I think I got him for a reasonable price and I know we will give him a good home. As soon as I can I will post pictures of him.

Does anyone know if the "older" Mickey bears have a leg tag?

                          Scruffy Duffy!

They actually sell bags to wash plush in the washer (I saw one on Shark Tank...hey, that's ABC; I wonder why they didn't give Duffy a cameo there?). So very worst case you could do that. (I'd be scared to do it, but if you really can't get the smell out, it could work.)

If washing is too extreme, here are tips for (not-very washable) dolls that in theory would work on Duffy.

Not tags that say "Disney Bear" on them (like Duffy has a Duffy tag), but just a regular Disneyland/WDW Resort tag like is on all the other plush at the parks. Here's a picture I have of Lil D, who is a 'My First Disney Bear', that happens to show the leg tag...

(He was playing hide and seek, hehe. And yes, he has shaggy "just rolled out of bed" fur, LOL)

Oh, Lil'D's fur isn't even the shaggy kind I mentioned. His is reasonable. There were these though...
