  • 1961 Disneyland Photos

I was going through "the family archives" with my Mom a few weeks ago and came across a bunch of slides my Dad took in Disneyland's early days. Some of them were scratched and faded pretty badly, so I quickly took them in to Ritz Camera to get them scanned onto a CD. Here's a couple from July 1961:

That's my mom and sister in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, before I was even a twinkle in my dad's eye.

I love this one of Tomorrowland--bubble top Monorail, round Skyway buckets, and glorious gunmetal grey submarines.

More pics are at http://www.disneynewsarchive.com/photoarchive.htm (That wasn't too gratuitous of a plug, was it? ).

I have some additional pics from 1956 that are taking time to restore. My favorites in that batch are of Storybookland still under construction. I'll be posting them soon.

Astounding photos, wow how things have changed.I haveto say I like that shot of the Subs and the Yellow Monorail docked at the Station. That shot says 1000 things about how things used to be.

I love how empty the park is. Compare it to pics taken July of this year!

I too love the emptiness, and less clutter around the attractions.

And behind the Monorail is the Autopia. Tomorrowland was constantly in motion (and the PeopleMover was still 6 years away).

How things used to be, indeed.
