I think it helps. I've seen videos of attractions I've wanted to see at other parks, and while the videos are good, it makes me even more want to experience it for myself. Even with a great recording, you can't get the perfect lighting, you can't capture everything in that experience.

I think it encourages the love and excitement.

I think it helps. The guest sees the video and comes up with their opinion of the ride/show. It's the difference between "Whoa, I have to see that on my trip!" or "Whoa, I'm glad I didn't waste my time on that!"

It certainly helps Disney. Nothing like free advertising.

Some of the greatest times with my 2 year old and 3 year old grandchildren is them kicking back laying on my chest as we watch "all" the Disneyland and DCA rides. You wouldn't believe how many times I've watched a Buzz Lightyear ride or parade. I love it. Whats so funny is the 11 and 13 year old will hear the music and the noise we are making enjoying the video and they will come in the room and watch with us.
I think You Tube is awesome because of that.

I, for one, enjoy watching ride videos on YouTube. Especially ride videos of attractions I can't go on all the time (or ever, in most cases), such as rides from WDW, D-land Paris, and all the other parks around the world. Or, for another example, ride videos of extinct attractions, such as the PeopleMover or the old Submarine Voyage.

Re: Is You Tube Helping the Disney theme park experience?

Excellent question. As a lifetime non-AP-holder (so far), I've tended to prefer the singular magic of infrequent visits over the frequent but not-quite-as-special satisfaction of going more often. So especially at first, I was really very hesitant to view YouTube videos of attractions and so forth. Wanted to keep it special. But as I've started going more frequently and as I've needed more and more reference material for my 3D model, I've grown to accept them more and more.

They're a great tool if used correctly. They're crappy substitutes for actual attraction experiences, and it's foolhardy to decide that it's unnecessary to see a given attraction in person based merely on the YouTube video. It's fine to decide the opposite based on the video, but so much is lost when you're looking at this small, compressed, two-audio-channel, edited, poorly recorded video as opposed to the actual experience that you really can't say something's not worth it based on that.

I really appreciate every Disneyland video that's been put up on the web, because they can all be useful to me in some way, and some are even enjoyable simply for the sake of watching! But I'm so blown away by the actual park that they could never compare, of course.

I definetly helps. But I do get disappointed when I watch rides I haven't been on. I know it's my fault but I always get tempted to watch it.

Re: Is You Tube Helping the Disney theme park experience?

I don't think it's hurting the park itself because there will never be anything that will be able to duplicate the experience of being there in person, and it's nice being able see Disneyland history, like past shows, parades, attractions. The only thing that bugs me is when people put like 15 seconds of Remember or have a video of the show stop that cuts out in the middle. I do wish they would put official videos of shows, attractions, parades on the DisneyParks channel.

I know that it certainly makes me want to work there even more than I already do!
For me, seeing the videos on youtube makes me crave Disneyland even more.

For me its like seeing a commercial for chocolate chip cookies. I don't get a full stomach from a commercial. But I immediately want to make or buy some cookies.

Seeing the ride on YouTube just makes me want to go even worse. Besides, I believe in my lifetime, I will have a limited amount of opportunities to ride Disneyland Paris' Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. But I can ride it on YouTube anytime I want.

It makes me want to plan a trip to France!
Check out My Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 rides... I'm always working on another one... I hope they make you want to go to Disneyland.

YouTube is also great for attractions that are no longer around.

When it's 113 degrees here and I'm stuck inside I love to watch the YouTube videos.
