  • [Idea] Disneyland needs Water Writing!

I saw this video on yahoo and was mezmorized:

    Water Writing on Yahoo! Video

It's a waterfall that is programmed to make designs, words, shapes, you name it! I just imagine "wow, what if Disney made one like this... it would be amazing!"

I could just see the types of things they'd put.

It's certainly an interesting concept, and the video was fascinating. I just don't know how it could possibly be implemented in a way that wouldn't seem like a cheesy distraction, rather than something that contributes to an overall experience.

I'd be interested to see ways this might be able to be incorporated into a show. But a show centered around this technology might come off as gimmicky. I don't know why, but for some reason I see this sort of this as something that reeks of a potential commonplace mall-side feature that becomes trite and dated very quickly.

When I go to Disneyland I want to be dropped into a world of adventure and Fantasy. I could see the showcasing of tech in Tomorrowland but that still doesn't make it any better than as you said, a mall-side feature. It makes me think of the water globe. Although cool to play with once in a while, it doesn't really add much to the land.

There's something like this only it writes with bubbles in a water tank. I saw that a few years ago and thought it would be cool for the FNSV queue (writes the attraction name)

This would be great in Tomorrowland, if implemented in the right way! Maybe at the Tomorrowland entrance. REALLY COOL though!

Hehe, maybe I should have been more vague. I meant to say Disneyland Resort. Be it in a park or preferrably, a hotel or downtown disney. Water is always something that soothes the mind and a nicely designed fountain would be a great distraction in a public center or area.

I agree that it may not exactly be right for any one land except for say, Tomorrowland or maybe Future World in Epcot.

It's certainly not meant to be the main event, but if done properly (like in a queue maybe), it would be a nice feature to enjoy.

                      Re: Disneyland needs Water Writing!

The video is interesting but the background in a mall makes it hard to make out what is written. It needs to be against a dark background. It would work in DTD but not in the Parks. It would make for a good way to advertise Disney in the Hotel or even outdoors in the plaza between Parks. I think in a Park it would work in DCA but not Disneyland. There is enough to look at there and would just fit better over at the other park.

For some reason the mental image of "water writing" made me think of yellow snow on the side of the road!

I think it is a cool video, not sure where they could use something like that though.

I would like to see this at the park too. I think they could do a lot of cool dtuf with it.

That's impressive. I wonder if they could program designs such as a Mickey head.

I like the thinking that it could be used in the hotels and/or Downtown Disney and the like. Somewhere where people can stand (and/or sit?) and watch it for a bit, but not in the way of those wanting to continue on by.
