  • Video 1959 Disneyland 8mm Home Movies

So while I was home for the holidays, my parents got some of their old 8mm movies transferred to dvd. They had some really neat Disneyland movies circa 1959, and I just had to share them! This was the first year the Matterhorn, Monorail, and Submarine Voyage was open (if I'm not mistaken). Keep an eye out for the Rainbow Caverns, Keel Boat, Captain Hook's Ship, and some other great rides that have long since gone.

    Hope you enjoy them!

        Fascinating stuff, Captain EO!

For what it's worth.. I saw two things that signify that this footage (or at least parts of it) was taken after 1959. You can see the monorail heading towards the Disneyland Hotel; that section of track was added in 1961. Also the elephant bathing pool can be seen on the Jungle Cruise; that was also an addition, which appeared sometime in 1962.

Thanks! There's actually multiple footage mixed in from both my mom and dad's 8mm's. The older footage from 1959 was from my mom, and some of footage from my dad wasn't labeled with a year. We knew my dad's movies were after that, just weren't sure on the year. So the footage of the Jungle Cruise and Monorail (mostly toward the end) was my dad's

That's right, Paul Frees narrated both omnimover attractions (atomobile and doombuggy, respectively). He also provided the narration for the original incarnation of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and the voices for several Pirates of the Carribean.

That was great and the vintage audio was a well done addition.
