  • [Question] What Are The "Little Things" That You Appreciate About Disneyland?

This may have been done before, recently, or not. If so, I apologize for rehashing it.

If not, well then I hope this thread can really show any viewers what about the resort that can really make a person happy. This thread is coinciding with another more serious thread that I have posted, some of you viewing this may have found your way to this one from that particular one.

We all know that everyone likes, or loves, the attractions, characters, or shows. But as the title asks, what are some of the "little things" that make you appreciate Disneyland? What are some of those things that you'd like to point out and share with others? Please feel free to let us know, and include some pictures if you'd like. And they can be anything, even very fond memories that you may have of a visit long ago, or a more recent visit to the resort.

Everything they do is First Class. Example; the gas burning steet lights on Main street are real gas burning lamps. Disneyland is a living work of art. The planters and landscaping is almost always perfect. Every little detail is attended to from how they treat guests to how things are painted and created.

The atmosphere and how everything just seems so happy at the park.

Christmas time, where you can walk down Main Street, hear the Christmas music, smell the peppermint that is blown through the vents on the buildings onto the streets, the lights and the decorations. And the sight of Small World as you walk down the parade route through Fantasyland.

I love the holidays at the park.

Exactly. There are a million little interesting details, but the overall happy feeling is the best part.

One day I was leaving the park, walking down Mainstreet, when a cast member who was there for parade crowd control made eye contact and spontaneously high-fived me.

Another evening I was on the tram going back to the Mickey and Friends parking structure, and the conductor said "Everyone on board sit well back in your seats with your feet on the floor ... and a smile on your face". It definitely put a smile on my face - what a great capper for a lovely day!

i like just sitting on a bench or outside table, watching people enjoying their day
looking at the view of NOS from Frontierland

actually looking at a view of anything in general

I still remember the time when one CM on the tram said on the mic "When you wish upon a star, you may, you may just find your car."

Ok, here's a strange one for you. I know the area to be revealed is quite small and would be impossible, but I think about this every time:

On "It's a Small World," in the Africa scene, the boat passes by the hippo with the lit-up eyes, and I don't look at the entire hippo. I only glance at its eyes, and I look for as long as I can at its mouth, with the two teeth. I look at the lighting inside and think about what it might be like to live inside that mouth, to rest against one of the teeth and read, to go further back and furnish it with a bed, refrigerator, etc.

Less strange would be the Haunted Mansion. I look at every single decoration, every single window, everything attached to that house. And I think how much I'd want to have a house like that. Expensive, no doubt, but to me, it feels homey.

In short, the ability to imagine as wildly as you want while you walk around a true imagination heaven.

There's no such thing as too many books. Now go bring the 18-wheeler around.

Walking out onto the Esplanade, hearing the music, seeing some ears, catching just a glimpse of the flowerbed, and realizing, "Hey...I'm here."

For me, colors. As a kid I never realized there were so many colors until I went to Disneyland. The old Rainbow Caverns in Frontierland was an eye-popping wonderland of fluorescent waters. The lights on Sleeping Beauty Castle at night were like watching Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, but live right in front of you instead of on your TV set. The view of Fantasyland at night from the Skyway was a feast for the eyes, especially after the 1983 makeover of Fantasyland. And riding through "it's a small world" is practically a college-level course on color theory. The colors are a huge factor in why that ride is still there after 43 years, as far as I'm concerned. Disneyland is so colorful, especially at night, that it makes the rest of the world seem drab.

Also the park-like quality of Disneyland is another major factor in its success. If you took all the rides out of Disneyland it would still be a very pleasant place to visit. The same can't be said for some other amusement parks and theme parks.

What I really enjoy is how people are more prone to be "free" walking around with ears on, singing and dancing just being free and enjoying the music and special smells of Disneyland.

I also love it when I'm on Pirates and when the first drop happens everyone sings "Yo Ho A Pirate's Life for Me!" Its so much fun, like everyone comes to this one happy place stress free with just the intent of pure enjoyment!

I love that everything there is a piece of artwork complete with all the detail. There is so much thought that went into everything.
