  • Disneyland 50th map

Does anyone know exactly how big the new souvenir map is? I measured and got around 3ft3in by 2ft3in but I need to know the exact dimensions so I can get a frame for it.

It's a beautifual map, isn't it? Nina Ray Vaughn, the Imagineer who drew this map and every other "fun" map for the past 15 years (since Sam McKim retired), was laid off.

Disney seems to be very generous about laying people off. They realize that compition like Fox and Universal may need talented artists so Disney happily lays them off so that the other companies can have them. Disney seems to love hurting itself ).

Okay sorry for the slight derail but no I do not know how big it is.

It's roughly 36" tall by 48" wide. This is just a guess, I don't have one in front of me, but saw one a few days ago.

Morrigoon was kind enough to pick one up for me, and it hangs in my tiny hallway, mounted on a nice foam board. It is a realy nice piece. Might get the frame someday, but I would imagine to frame it properly would cost a bit.
(Kind of a tough one to swallow for a $5 map)

I had the wall maps for Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Tokyo and Paris all dry mounted on foam, and just a simple do it yourself black metal frame around each one. They really looked neat and the frames were about $10 each.

Generally the rules from framing art is that the frame should cost at least 3 times the cost of the art.

well, I will have to look around then. The Frames i was looking at were running up near $150 for the size i needed.

By the way, since the maps can only be attained folded (that I know of), you might be interested to know that a common iron is a great way to smooth the wrinkles on your map (though I'd suggest ironing the back side of it and using a piece of paper as a buffer, just to be safe).

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

There is a chain of art places around here and for some reason I can't think of the name. But most frame stores should have these do it yourself frames. You buy two sets of two pieces for each frame. For instance, for the map you would by one set of two 27" peices and one set of two 39" peices. You fasten each of the longest peices to one of the short peices, slide the mounted map in from the bottome piece that is missing, then put that piece on and tighten all the little screws. Add the wire and hang. I never put any glass or plastic over the map as that adds too much wieght.

A large movie poster frame works great too. That's what I did. About every month, Michaels has a sale where all poster frames (even the huge ones) are $10. I reccommend going that route. Great way to protect it and display it at the same time!
