  • What reminds you of the park? What feels "Disney" to you?

Strange question, I know. Lemme put it this way:

Have you encountered anything that reminds you of a certain facet of the park? I'll give an example....

I live in a complex that has a lot of rocky waterfalls built into the walkways. The lighting at night reminds me a bit of the walkway between Thunder Mountain and Fantasyland. They also string lights among the trees at X-mas time, invoking memories of the Hub. One of the reasons I've stayed here so long (since '95) is the relaxed feeling I get when I walk the place at night. The elements are just right.

So, is there anything that has that "Disney vibe" for you? A restaurant, a mall, your house, a photo?

My house has a deliberate Norma Desmond old hollywood TOT vibe going on. I added an echo generator to my BGM system so all the old music sounds melancholy and a bit far away (like the shining). The house is 1920s Spanish and has that silent movie star mood and imagery, lots of candles, thick walls, stenciled beams and very dim. (Zorro had an affair with Clara Bow and ran off to Catalina theme). Then my kids turn on Spongebob, ride razor scooters thru the living room and wreck the whole darn thing!

This is going to sound totally silly but....
There is a Glade scent, Glade is the air freshner company, they make this one scent called Glistening Snow. It smells exactly like one of the scents used on Soarin California in DCA! Everytime I smell it, I feel like I am on the ride.

Another thing that reminds me of Disneyland is listening to the park area music while I am driving. We listen to all the park tracks when we drive down there so anytime that I have it playing and I am in the car, I feel like I am on my way to Disneyland!

Many years ago, I used to be involved in choosing the area music for the parks and used to play it in my car first while driving, then decide what to put where. How ironic is that? Does art imitate life or is this deja vu?

          Incredible.

The movie the Incredibles made me feel like I was back in the Tomorrowland of my childhood. I love the movie for that.

We've a nearby onramp that loops over the freeway and reminds me of parts of Autopia.

There's this mountain a few miles away that I swear looks just like the Matterh... oh duh... it is... lol...

Doncha just love the little details? The scents....the music. Anything that activates the lobe of your brain that's hardwired to the park in some subtle way?

This is odd but the mine exhibit here at the local historical society has a smell that always makes me think of POTC and when I used to work in a resturaunt the fumes from the diesel truck on a cool morning reminded me of waiting for the submarine ride

The area music loops are great. I play them at home every day. I've got Main Street in my living room! POTC in my car.

When there is stagnant or chlorine water around, it's the water attractions that comes to mind.
And any mild, dusty smell is the Haunted Mansion for me.
                    I lurk.

Every now and then, after a heavy rain, it smells like PotC around here. One of the best smells in the world.

Another vote for the Potc smell, whenever we get a whiff of that the boys and I are like "smells like Pirates!"

Also, certain scooters and such around here sound like the Autopia cars when there's a bunch going at once it's like "ohhhh sounds like autopia!"

And when I was a little kid and white mini lights were not so popular at Christmas time, whenever I saw white mini lights in trees I used to think of of the park,I loved it.

Whenever I go to the mall or the fair or some place where I have to walk around for an extended period of time, I get "Disneyland feet" and can't call it anything else.

The neon sign on any "Firestone" tire shop.

Their use of that old English font reminds me of the similar font used on the old Disneyland sign (and most other place "Disneyland" is written).

When I was a kid I thought they were part of the same company, and I always wanted to go to Firestone because I thought it would be a lot of fun.
