  • Dave Avanzino Icon Letters Series

When I was out in Disneyland this summer I saw two icon letters pieces by Dave Avanzino: Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. I am curious if any other peices have come out since July: Adventureland, Frontierland, Disneyland, or Main Street? If anyone goes to the park, could you let me know? I saw them in The Disney Gallery, Disneyana Shop, and The World of Disney.
    Thanks!

Re: Dave Avanzino Icon Letters Series

At the beginning of October, I saw these
pieces at Disneyana and Disney Gallery.
Got a chance to see All the original Lands
    and Disneyland in this series.

I am not a big fan of Avanzino's style,
and really didn't care much for his
    100 Mickey's.

BUT this series REALLY caught my eye,
because of the beautiful work. Each
letter is easily recognizable as an Icon
in the "Land" they spell! Absolutely
    beautiful! I really liked Adventureland,
Disneyland and Main Street the best!

Out of all the letters, my favorite was
Turning the "A" into the Matterhorn!
Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Ya can't cover pooh with honey and 'spect people ta like it.

Does anybody have pictures of these? I've only seen the Adventureland one, but would want Fantasyland or one of the others for my house.

I believe they cost $75 each and they are open-edition peices.

No problem, also here is a photo of the TOMORROWLAND peice he did. The photo does the work no justice though...

EDIT: Here are links to better images of the peices. These are Limited Edition versions that he released at the Disneyana Convention in 2001. I guess Disney finally got around to making open-editions of them now and if memory serves - I don't think they're as elaborate as they are in these photos... So I may be wrong, but I don't think the ones available at Disneyana on Main Street are as exquisite as the peices in the photos below... Nevertheless, theyre still amazing.

              Disneyland: http://www.mousetreasures.com/avanzino/disneyland.shtml
              Main Street U.S.A.: http://www.mousetreasures.com/avanzino/mainstreet.shtml
              Adventureland: http://www.mousetreasures.com/avanzi...tureland.shtml
              Frontierland: http://www.mousetreasures.com/avanzino/disneyland.shtml
              Fantasyland: http://www.mousetreasures.com/avanzi...tasyland.shtml
              Tomorrowland: http://www.mousetreasures.com/avanzi...rrowland.shtml

Again, I'm not sure if the peices they're offering at Disneyana now are as elaborate as these... I dont know though... But if they aren't I guess it's understandable since theyre offering them at much cheaper price ($75 compared to $900) and I'm sure it would be quite difficult to produce and open-edition of these peices without toning them down a bit... Nevertheless they're amazing and well worth the $75 in my opinion. I may just buy myself the Disneyland peice next time I'm at the park.

^^Thanks for those links to the pictures. I have the Disneyland, Main Street, and Adventureland pieces hanging on the wall right behind me. The open edition pieces have a little less elaborate framing, but I like some of the letters better than the above pictures. I hopefully will purchase the Tomorrowland and Fantasyland next time I am down at the park. Last time I checked, the CM working in Disneyana told me they have not yet released the Frontierland one.

Thanks everyone for the information. Right now I might have to wait until next month before continuing my purchases.
The CM told once I bought one (Fantasyland) I would want the others. I bought the Tomorrowland piece before I left the Disneyana store (so I left with two pieces).
And they are beautiful. I have the two hanging in the living room. Since they are now an open edition, I hope some are still available in November/December.

I just called DelivEars and orderd the "Disneyland" letters. It saves me having to buy it at the park and ship it home! I can't wait to get it and hang it on my wall!

Okay . . . well now I'm just going to have to do the same! So what it isn't payday yet. What is a little plastic if you can't use it for your personal obsession?

Seriously, do you think the "Disneyland" letters will still be available after the first of the month? I was hoping for that AND Adventureland. Budget says one at a time. OCD says get 'em all! Maybe my Chistmas wish list? Oh Santa baby . . .

But thanks for the replies and the links to the photos. This has me excited and hopeful completing the collection.)

See, for me, it's just not practical to get the entire series, so that's why I just bought "Disneyland". I have limited wall space, so just the one will be fine for me. If only I could afford that Thomas Kinkade piece....sigh....

My "Disneyland" piece arrived in the mail yesterday, and it's really beautiful! It's much better than I expected, and I just love it. In fact, I think the cheaper version with the black frame looks much nicer than the matted ones from earlier. Each letter is much more detailed than I realized, and it's one of those instances where it's exceeded my expectations.

Re: Dave Avanzino Icon Letters Series

I have all the pieces as of now but I'm waiting on the Frontierland piece. Every CM I have asked(in Disneyana) said that they or no one knew when it was coming out. My favorites are Disneyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. I'm not crazy about the Fantasyland, but I still like it. The Main Street is cute, but I LOVE the Frontierland as well. I can't wait for it to come out. Here is the orginal: http://www.mousetreasures.com/avanzi...tierland.shtml

I love the Disney World theme park ones as well. Too bad they don't have these in open edition-I LOVE them:

I really love the new Nightmare Before Christmas one that just came into Disneyana not too long ago. My relative really likes it, so I was going to call DelivEARS and order to have it sent to me. It will go right along with the Disneyland set...in the meantime, come on Frontierland!
