  • Hollywood backlot gone green... with trees!

I just saw the new pictorial at www.mousetimes.com, and they showed some HPB updates... It's amazing how tree's can change the look of a place, theres a whole bunch of new tree's planted.. And in all honesty, it looks amazing! I cannot wait for the finished project! GO TREES GO!

It does look a lot better. Seeing how many trees they are putting in right now really makes you realize how open and landscape-less the area was before. I hope we see more of this enhancment to DCA in the future-especially Paradise Pier.

Were all of those palm trees new??

They must be since I never noticed them. They look good.

I can't wait until "Project Sparkle" (or should it be called "Project Sparkle and Shade"?) moves on to other areas of the park! It's going to help DCA so much... It's already looking great (although I'm not too fond of the Hollywood Studios arches) yay!

I was worried it was going to be a skimpy dress up, but they are really adding a lot. See Paul, if you did it right in the first place, this wouldn't have to be done.

Now that I think of it, if they did it right in the first place, then they probablly would have gone with Westcot...

The tree's really change the look! I like the arches though, and once there finished (need paint, lot's of ugly patches etc.) it'll all be good!

its kinda looking to me like that arches will have some time of like stucco pillar around the poles to dress it up. thats just my guess.

Much nicer. Gives the impression of a studio campus. It really is so nice that they're improving this long neglected land. They definately needed some seperation of the studios and hollywood theme.

Those tress are really nice. I really like this Placemaking or Project Sparkle or whatever it's called going through DCA. Heres hoping PP is next.

What really is amazing is how quickly they moved in on improving this section of the park... If they can get every attraction online and promote it with a big opening event, it could be really nice change... Then they can decend their imagineers on other areas of the park

The trees are good, but the archways don't make any sense.

The entire East side of D.C.A. is supposed to be a backlot stage set, so how does "Hollywood Studios" relate to this original idea?

Hollywood Pictures Backlot already has one set of studio gates. These two archways potentially undermine the original design intent, which is that guests step onto what they think is Hollywood Boulevard but which they soon realize is, in reality, a backlot stage set representing Hollywood Boulevard. That idea is truly clever and imaginative. I would hate for it to be lost.

Monsters, Inc. at D.C.A. seems ill-conceived, and, apparently, some of the other changes that are part of the project may be just as lacking in logic and creativity.

"a bug's land" and these other additions are weakening the park, creatively-speaking, and are, in so doing, making the park into an even bigger mess.

Well I belive project sparkle is doing good... And the arches most likely mean that it's no longer a backlot stage set...

Yup, I'd say they are "re-imagining" the original theme and making Hollywood Blvd not a back lot. This fits in better with the Tower of Terror, but worse with the huge fake backdrop at the end of the street, but then one can imagine a movie within a movie sort of thing going on.

I very much hope this makeover does well and bring people in. That means they will contenue on and make over some other much needed area's of the park if this works!!! This seems like a small scale test.
