  • [Pictures] A Victorian Pier splashed with a World of Color

    By theforbiddeneye at 2011-08-12

I found a site called Picnik which is a site for photo editing and looks similar to Photoshop.

I made an account and played around with some WoC pictures. This process is called Focal B+W in which the entire pic is B+W save for an area of the picture still in the original color.

This idea came one day while I was relaxing in my colleges library but I wasn't able to find a program to do this. Now this website I found made it possible!

Yeah, it took me months to find a way to make this possible! I'm going to do more of this, but use other parts of both parks.

I might go to the parks tomorrow so I'll see what I can do! And it was a long time. Photoshop might have the feature but its too darn expensive.

That's cool, is it possible to make the entire pier and attractions in b/w and just leave the water shoots in color

Unfortunaley I can't change the shape of the color area. Its always a circle that can only expand or shrink so I have to include the attractions as well.

These are wonderful photos! You did a great job on them. Can't wait to see more!

There's a free Photoshop-like program called GIMP you can download and install (it's a relatively small file) that will allow you to keep only the water in color, though it takes quite a bit of effort and patience to do it. But at least you can have the option.

Here's a link: GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

Yes I did. I use a Sony A33 DSLR Camera. I then went to Picnik to edit the photo make it like this.

If you have an iPhone or know someone who has one there's an app called Color Splash that gives you more precise control over what part is color and what part is black and white. It works really well!
