  • News New Main Street Music Loop to Debut January 9th

According to this Facebook event, there will be a new music loop debuting on Main Street by noted 1920s-style bandleader Dean Mora. The new loop will include new recordings of some of the same tunes from before as well as some new material to Main Street (rags and such) and even some Disney music, namely the love theme from the movie Up. Dean Mora's band is one of the best in the nation playing in style of the period depicted on Main Street, but I wonder how well this new loop will fit into the scene, especially with the addition of overtly Disney music. At least we know it will be well recorded and impeccably performed by Dean and his band. Thoughts? Also, is Dean Mora the one who recorded the new Buena Vista St. and Paradise Pier loops?

Another loop is a good thing. You can never have too much Disney music.

My guess is that it will be great. The masses may feel differently and admittedly the old loop was very welcoming in its familiarity, but no doubt the feel will be the same. The addition of new music, done in a 1920s style could be awesome. I love the old but sometimes the new, when done with an eye toward quality, works real well.

I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Dean Mora is an expert on popular music of the early 20th century. I'm not kidding when I say his band is incredible.

So which song are they going to pull from Mary Poppins for this new loop? Should we start taking bets now?

The choice of Mora is excellent. I disagree, however, that non-period movie music is appropriate for Main Street. Its theme is turn of the 19th century Americana, not 21st century Disney movies. Couldn't Disney forget its in-your-face synergy and brand marketing just once? Walking down Main Street we already KNOW we're in Disneyland -- the background music should help transport us in imagination to small-town America of 1890-1910, not remind us of the latest Disney and Pixar films.

Anyone know where we could listen to clips of Dean Moras work? Sounds interesting.

They have a pretty amazing catalog of music. Should be a nice change.

I wonder if they will use the new loop on all the Main St.'s in the other parks?

I agree with you, however, Up is not the worst choice they could have made.the Carl and Ellie theme is a sweet waltz that would not sound too out of place among the various rags and other styles in which Mr. Mora specializes.

                      I'm sure you could search YouTube for his band Mora's Modern Rhythmists or check out his website. M O R A' S **M O D E R N**M U S I C

I doubt there will be anything from Poppins. The only confirmed bit of Disney music is from Up.

I've noticed over at DCA that they've been playing some of Main Street's loop in it's entry walkway. Could some of this new music be replacing some of the tunes that will stay in DCA?

It's an interesting progression at any rate. And thank you for identifying the musicians behind it as I've been looking for something like this awhile.

Actually what they've been playing in he DCA entryway is the new Buena Vista Street loop. Nothing in that comes from Main Street. It's distinctly a later time period than Main St.

Well... if you take a good listen, you'll hear some exact pieces from the Main Street loop. Having worked on Main Street, I don't think I'm hearing things.

Re: New Main Street Music Loop to Debut January 9th

I've been walking across Main Street twice a day, and occasionally working on the street in Guest Control shifts, nearly every day for years. And I can't even think of what music is playing there now!

I'm sure it's currently very nice, but I couldn't tell you what songs or style or forms of music is playing on the Main Street USA music loop.

Interestingly, I can instantly think of the exact music and songs played in Frontierland, including the theme song from Blazing Saddles and the instrumental of the National Beef Board commercial jingle. How did those two songs get into Frontierland???

Whatever they come up with for Main Street, I bet it will be great and an improvement over the forgettable soundtrack they have now. And certainly this isn't the first time in 58 years they've changed the background music there. With the new speakers they have installed in recent years, the latest digitial recordings of fresh songs and playlists will probably really pop now and be memorable and more impactful.
