  • News Mark Twain Riverboat Down for Refurbishment During 24 Hour Event

I think I just need to accept that I will never be able to ride the Mark Twain!

I just looked at the entertainment schedule for the week I'm going to Disney (Feb 27th - March 3rd), & the Mark Twain Riverboat is down for refurb.

This also means that it will be down during the 24 hour event.

Every time I go to Disneyland it's down... & I consider myself an avid Disneylander.

I just have to accept it. I will never be able to ride it. *sigh*

You can always "youtube" it until you can actually board ship and sail the Rivers of America!

Sorry you won't be able to ride the Mark Twain. We were there just a week ago and caught a ride to see the new additions to the River again. Once we were out of the glaring sun it was so pleasant and cool to cruise around the Island!

Don't give up! It will eventually be there for you!

Really sad to hear this. Although, I WAS wondering which attractions they might discontinue during the overnight hours. If they were to run the Columbia or the Twain, my concern was regarding the fatigue factor for those cast members who usually aren't up at 3 AM. All it would take is for one of the cast members to over shoot the dock a bit or doze off as it comes around the corner, and you could have another severe accident. It will be interesting to see what they leave open and what they shut down, even if it's for "mechanical"reasons. I wouldn't be surprised to see several E tickets go down over night.

If the "big boats" won't be running, they should figure out a way to use the canoes. Give everyone miner's (spelunker's) lights, or night vision goggles ....

I don't think tired CMs is a valid reason to close down rides. People will be there at night. CMs may not have expected to be working such late hours when they applied for the job, but I'd be surprised if Disney was not offering their employees who choose (assuming they get the option) to work late some extra compensation to make sure this publicized event goes off without a hitch.

If there can be a late-night clean up crew who make sure the park is spotless, there can be attraction CMs who keep rides afloat.

No fireworks, no Fantasmic!, no Mark Twain going around at night. They're seriously gutting all nighttime entertainment for such an event.

                  We don't know that yet.

There is only a preliminary schedule posted online. From what I've been told, not even TDA knows what's happening yet. The event is still too far out to draw conclusions.

I'd be shocked if they didn't plan fireworks for that night. It might not be on the schedule yet, but I'm pretty sure they've ALWAYS have had fireworks scheduled on nights that they are open until midnight. As they won't close until 6 AM, I'm sure that more than qualifies.

                      Time is flying.
They only have 3 1/2 weeks to figure it all out.

To that end I'd like the Internet community to join me in reminding the Disney company that "it all started with Walt." As you can see below we've created some T-shirts, plus a few simple graphics that you can copy and paste into your websites to let folks know how you feel.

I bet that this is a strategic move by Disney. They close down traffic during Grad Nights too. I'm sure that they don't want someone doing something silly in the dark.

That, or they are planning something secret to do and need the water clear for it.

That was really my only specific plan for this day. Has the Columbia ever sailed at night? I know F!, of course, but haven't looked to see if many lights are on the boat itself. Will cope, but a drag.

                            A bientot.

The Columbia runs at night if the Mark Twain is under refurb. I remember riding the Columbia when it was dark.
