I honestly don't spend a lot of time thinking about it. But whoever said this, obviously doesn't understand what Disneyland is one bit.

Uhhh I've been to both places, and Las Vegas is disgusting in comparison to Disneyland.

^^^I love Vegas, but it's disgusting even without comparing it to Disneyland.

Maybe if there was a CSI spinoff based in Disneyland, then one could make a comparison.

Yes...but i can totally understand the comparison...

-You are totally immersed in another world.
-You get to escape reality, and it is all based in fantasy.
                -Lots of shows and attractions
-You "indulge" more than you would otherwise.
-The people that work there are paid to be nice to you.
-Staying on strip (on site) rather than off strip (offsite) will cost a LOT more.
-Tourists from all walks of life and different parts of the country are there.
-If you are not careful...you will spend WAY too much money!

In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s Las Vegas had a swanky style and identity of its own as an adult playground. It seems like starting sometime in the 1970s, probably with the MGM Grand hotel, that it tried to redefine itself as a destination for the whole family, instead of an escape for adults to indulge in their favorite pleasure. So they built a lot of huge hotels with a lot of attractions. But to me, a lot of it is tacky and even cheesy in places. It all seems very awkward and clumsy attempt to manufacture a family destination out of what used to be a somewhat stylish adults-only getaway.

I wouldn't dare bring my kid to the strip if I had one. I wouldn't even DRIVE my kid on the stip. All those nasty cars with those huge ads on them with almost nude women, and those packets they give out to kids on the streets. It's disgusting. When I walked down there I needed brain bleech

I don't know what Vegas you all have been to but I've been to some classy joints! Vegas has some of the greatest collection of restaurants around!

I know that it has a reputation for shady practices (strip clubs, etc) but I guess those can be considered "attractions" as well. You also have a collection of the best shows around too!

And like ParkHopper1 said, you're immersed in this place. The casinos and resorts are pretty well themed.

I usually don't compare Vegas to Disneyland because I frequent both and understand the differences. But I get excited when I'm going to Vegas. I get excited when I go to Disneyland. Same level of excitement, different destination.
