  • [Question] Big People At Disneyland And DCA

My 21 year old brother and I are planning a visit to California in February next year.

    I am 5'8 and about 295 pounds.

Can anyone tell me about their experiences of going to Disneyland and DCA and rides they could and could not get on?

    Thank you

5'7" and 270. only ride I truly had any problem with was Mulholand Madness, which is now Goofy Sky School. Hard to get in and out, really cramped, hurt like heck during the ride. I had absolutely no problems with being comfortable with any other ride.

Gadget's Go Coaster may be a tight fit. Make sure and ride by yourself if you decide to go.

Grizzly River Rapids, the tube ride in California Adventure.

I'm slightly heaver than the stats listed above and just got back from a week at Disneyland. The only problem I had was with Silly Symphony Swings, couldn't fit in the swing, also Pooh was a hard sell, but that's what I get for sitting in the back row.

I have a friend who's a big guy, and he wasn't totally comfortable on the Nemo subs. They're pretty tiny seats, and you basically get squashed in "cheek-to-cheek" -- it's more a question of comfort with zero personal space than will-you or won't-you fit.
He didn't have any trouble on the Grizzly River Rapids (you may be right that it was a particular seat mousedaddy...or they've fixed it).

My dad is a big guy (5'11"ish and around 300lbs) and he does fine on most rides. He wasn't comfortable on the Nemo Submarines or the Fantasyland rides but everything else was complaint free. He rode in his own "doom buggy" on Haunted Mansion and we stuck him in the back of the log for Splash Mountain so we didn't get overly drenched.

Trust me, you see plenty of heavy people walking around Disneyland. Most of the rides are pretty accommodating, imo.

One more thing: they have ride vehicles for a few rides: Dumbo, Mr Toad, the Teacups, in Fantasyland and Luigi's Tires in DCA--outside the queues for those rides. They're for photo ops but if you're larger, it's also a good way to test it out to make sure you fit in the ride vehicle before you get on line.

Nemo has an "alternative experience" that doesn't involve going down into the submarine--good for anyone who is claustrophobic, disabled or for whom the subs might be a tight fit.

Re: Big People At Disneyland And DCA

I'm 5'9", and since the age of 19, my weight has fluctuated between 240 and 350, and I really don't have problems on rides, although sitting in the front row on Space Mountain is a bit uncomfortable(which isn't all that much of an issue, seeing as I prefer the back row on roller coasters, but that has more to do with the actual ride experience, and nothing to do with my size). My biggest problem in the parks is that my shirt size is, depending on the shirt, either 3X or 4X, and if I want to buy a shirt at the Park, the largest size they carry in that particular shirt is 2X, which I can wear on certain shirts, but unfortunately, if I really like a particular shirt, 2X is a bit too small. . .

I am 5'8 and i would recommend going for the front of the bobsleds on Matterhorn to have ample legroom
