  • BVS ALREADY becoming "unthemed!"

I am surprised this has not been mentioned but the theming from the BVS shop windows is ALREADY, only 3mos in, is being taken out!! Atwater Ink and Julius Katz highly themed 1920s specific window theming has been replaced with generic WDW-style window displays, completly destroying any semblance it is 1923. WHAT IS GOING ON??? Is WDW-thinking in TDA already on the rampage in BVS? All that time and effort is already being destroyed. Unbelievable. Where is Lasseter??

I'm not sure where this topic is meant to go. Are you suggesting some kind of diabolical bait and switch?

CLEARLY. Why would they put WDW-style displays in carefully themed shops windows that WDI took so much effort to make look like 1923!??

maybe the stores are lacking in sales and they need to push sales with maybe a concept that although hated does work for them.

Sorry, but BVS is a higher concept that the Company hyped to high heaven and to completly destroy what they worked so hard to bring to frution, to show the Los Angeles that Walt saw in 1923, is DISGUSTING. Are you saying the guests are too stupid to know that there is not Disney merch. in the stores and instead are facades? Buena Vista Street was FLAWLESS period theming until this.

This is really sad. I just saw this on Facebook a few moments earlier and I'm a little disheartened. Especially since I haven't had the opportunity to visit Buena Vista Street yet. I was ecstatic about admiring every little detail of the land, the window displays being one of them. The Disney Parks blog/YouTube channel even shared a video about window displays (and displays inside the stores) that featured some of the windows that have now been turned into commercial merchandise displays. I instantly fell in love with the incredible attention to detail and tributes to Disney history and the street's time period. I'm dissapointed that some of these displays have vanished before I had the chance to see them in person. *sigh* I hope that the majority of the windows on BVS still maintain their original integrity.

No but displaying merchandise in public view will definitely catch more eyes. He could be right in saying that the stores might not be selling as much.

Not that I like it. But if that's the case a company needs to make its money.

Does anyone have any pictures? I didn't notice the stores when I went on Dapper Day.

it's what happens after ownership of places gets handed over probably.. instead of imagineers designing the initial displays.. you just have the retail regulars in there now.

That is the EXACT word I would use. My jaw DROPPED when I looked at the picture of the Atwater window. Just awful! What is wrong with them???
It's actually "Cars Land", not "Carsland".

                              Re: BVS ALREADY becoming "unthemed!"

As much of a shame as I think it is, I think this issue with the shop windows is reflective (pun firmly intended) of a much larger issue: merchandise quality and souvenir over-saturation.

I love shopping at the parks as much as anybody, but the blitz of every tchotchke you can imagine having Mickey's face slapped onto it is somewhat disheartening. On a side note ... there isn't even a unified aesthetic to the Mickeys in any one section. It's a garbled mishmash of styles and eras with no mind to thematic synchronicity.

Simply put: there's too much garbage on sale which has nothing to do with the areas it's being sold it. I can tolerate spinny light things on carts before a parade. Heck, maybe even in a dedicated section of the emporium; but they're everywhere! Random junk fills the shelves in every outlet.

I'm of the mindset that less of a better thing is worth more for the experience and image than more of everything.
