I would love to see a poster showing and comparing all of the monorail versions. Anyone up to the challenge?

I'm still waiting for someone artistic and creative to come along and interpret these new trains.

          Disneyland Mark I Monorail

This is the original Disneyland Monorail based on the Alweg designs. The easiest way to spot this version is that there are three cars on each train.

          Disneyland Mark II

Nearly identical to the Mark I.The big difference here that the strains are four cars long.

          Disneyland Mark III

Once again the monorail is based on the Mark I design. These trains were extended to the modern five car length.

          Walt Disney World Mark IV

This is the first use of the Lear Jet design by Disney. Trains feature five cars each.

          Disneyland Mark V

This model is based on the WDW Mark IV. If you closely you will realize that the Mark V is very round where as the Mark IV and mark VI are both rectangular with rounded edges. However, they are not new trains. The Mark Vs are essntially the old Mark IIIs with new body designs. As such there are five cars still per train.

          Walt Disney World Mark VI

Stylistically similar to the Mark IV. However the Mark VI is much larger and features six cars per train.

          Bombadier M-VI

This is actually the Las Vegas monorail system's train. However I feel they deserve a mention. The M-VI is based heavily on the work Bomabdier did for Disney's Mark VI. also the original MGM-Bally's Line operated with old WDW Mark IVs.

          Disneyland Mark VII
These are the trains under construction at WDI based upon the reverse engineering of Mark V Orange.

Look closely in the upper left hand corner of this piece of Tomorrowland 98 concept art. Monorail Red is clearly in a Mark I/II/III design. I believe this to be evidence that WDI originally planned for Mark VII bubble-top designs to premiere in 1998. I have also seen other Tomorrowland 98 pieces with the same Mark I/II/III based monorails.

This later rendering of the new 2000 Autopia clearly shows Monorail Red as a Mark V, after any sort of new monorail plans would have been dropped.

This is Bob Gurr's Disneyland Gallery rendition of a Disneyland Monorail of the Future! For those unaware, Gurr designed the Viewliner and Mark I. Probably not a contender, but fun none the less.

          Tokyo Disney Resort Line

The drastically different Tokyo Resort Line. The trains are more in touch with Japanese monorails. Also, because of Japanese law, they are considered actual transportaion. As such the schedules are set by the local transit authority and all trains must meet Japanese public transit codes.

            Great pics, btw.
I think that if TDR does, in fact, have a DCA monorail station, it would have to be located way inside DCA, like by California Screamin', after, obviously, extending the track out there. It would be WAY too short a trip from Tomorrowland to the Esplanade/DCA entrance area.
Are they replacing the track as well? I've heard from here and there that the track has seen much better days.

Well considering their size they actually look pretty nice. I would definately get rid of the Mickey windows. Have You seen the cgi image of the monorail trains for the palms in Dubai. Same train with different window design. They look a whole lot better.

The Mark III owns, enough said. They need to make a new model based off those. I dont understand how anyone can say these models dont look the best. The new ones just look so bulky and ugly.

That doesn't make sense. The Mark V is just the Mark III with a new body. The size and everything is exactly the same. Frankly I would hate to see something too much like a Mark I/II/III design. Such a monorail would look totally out of place in DCA and DTD.

The mark V is dated. A blend of the mark V and mark III would be great. Single pained sunroofs on top of the monorails would be great as well as more window space on the sides like the mark III. I agree with more color in the design. Al said that the new monorails would be a blend between the old and the new. I think a blend would be nice.

                                Re: The Mark VII

I have a different look at the "Disneyland Resort Line":

                                1. The monorail is no longer used for it's 'Monorail' factor, but it's train factor. In the future (based on today being the future, and the past being the present), we don't refer to inventions in their various stages. For example, I never say, I'm going to ride the "Electric Train", or "Diesel Train", or the "Electric Green", we say the "Green Line" - no matter the transportation style.

                                2. The "Disneyland Resort Line" implies that it used for actual transportation (which it is). The "Disneyland Monorail System" states a system of Monorails. The new wordage promotes it as transportation around the resort, and not as an attraction.

                                3. No matter the wordage, it will still be 'The Monorail', no sign change can break that.
