    Re: America Sings

The upstairs portion originally housed the Progress City/ EPCOT model when the carousel theater still was showing the Carousel of Progress, the model acted as the post show narrated by mother and father after exiting the theater guests walked up the ramp to view the post show and model. When the COP moved to WDW and America Sings moved in the model was still seen for a year or two but it eventually went to is present space on the Peoplemover. At that point the ramp was closed off and the upstairs was only accessible by the WEDWAY during that time it had installed projectors for the SUPERSPEED TUNNEL and the The Grid.

    Hope this helps.

See ya walkin' right down the middle of o'l Main Street USA

      Re: America Sings

To clarify - The Carousel of Progress actually ended by having the audience walk onto the stage in the final room, and this led to an escalator that brought them to the second floor. After they viewed "Progress City" as the final act to the show - they then exited the building by walking down the outside ramp - The outside ramp was never used to enter Progress City - The only way to enter it was from inside the building. As the PeopleMover passed through the building, there was an opening on one side of the passageway so that guests on board could view Progress City as they rode through the building. This opening was closed off, and screens were put around the perimeter of the PeopleMover passageway in the mid 70's - This was used for a new feature of the PeopleMover ride that gave guests the optical illusion of moving at great speed by projecting images all around them. In 1982, a Tron theme replaced the first version of this. The original version just showed speed boats, race cars etc etc. The Tron version projected graphic images from the film. During this period from 1973ish to 1998ish - the space where the Progress City Model had once inhabited remained completely empty - So aside from the People Mover passing through, this was an uninhabited space. Also, the ramps leading to the second floor on the outside of the building remained there, but were closed off to traffic. Guests were never allowed up there.

              Re: America Sings

The ramp was removed when America Sings was installed - Guests exited the theater the regular way for that show - The final stage of America Sings was the same scene as the first stage, with a bandstand and Sam and the Owl standing in the center. It gave you the impression you had gone all the way around, but there was actually another stage identical to this one that was used for the beginning of the show - This allowed one audience to be entering, as the last audience was exiting. Then the empty theater moved one stage down for the next audience to enter. The infrastructure that supported the ramp may have been left intact on the second floor, but the first floor was sealed off.

I'm a little confused. I rode America Sings many times, but can't remember how people exited from the ride. Did we still go up to the second level, or just out the doors?

Thanks, that popped up while I was reading through the thread. I'm usually not confused that easily.
