  • [Question] A strange question about Splash Mountain...

So, I went on Splash yesterday tons of times, and I got absolutely drenched. My hair too.
When it dried, the area that my hair had gotten wet felt like... crunchy plastic. My hair is super soft usually, so it's really weird! And then when I got home and washed my hair, it still feels like crunchy plastic.
Has this ever happened to any of you? Anyone know exactly what chemicals are in the water so I can see if it's going to be forever damaged?
    Thanks! :shy:

I'm definitely not an expert, but I'd imagine that there must be a lot of chlorine in the water at the very least...

That's what I thought too, but when I go swimming the chlorine has never done this to my hair, so maybe there are other chemicals?

I don't know what could be wrong but TWDC has very deep pockets. Time to call up a lawyer I'd say.

I honestly don't want to know. Probably the grease from the French fry friers. Or other things like that.

I got drenched on Splash Mountain including my hair and it didn't feel any different than it would if I jumped in a swimming pool.

              Hm, that's strange...
I did bleach my roots on Friday, and they seemed fine. I went the next day and after Splash they were horribly plastic-y... maybe there was some chemical reaction or something? o.o

                Did you just use bleach?

I had no problem my last visit (though I haven't inspected my clothes). But the water severely discolored my friend's green hoodie (turned the parts that got wet from green to yellow). I believe she's discarded it now.

Well, hair bleach powder and developer. Not like Clorox.

If you think about it there's a lot of things in that water. Germs from people's hands so other chemicals and stuff like that can transfer into the water. Bird crap, bugs, trash, etc.. So no one can really know what's in the water. It's just a mixture of mystery chemical or whatever you want to call it.

it is a chlorine based chemical as far as I can see. And dye. Plus all the nasty-ness that Slappypunk mentioned.

Here's the thing tho. That section (the run after the big drop), should be a tad bit cleaner than the middle of ROA, b/c they filter it before it goes thru the ride. So I am guessing it was chlorine plus whatever was in your hair/on your hair (hair stripper, holding products?). I also assume that when it gets filtered, it only removes objects and sediment. So the need for ultra high amounts of a chlorine based chemical is quite large.

Yeah, it was also on the second drop that my hair got soaked... actually, it was all of them.

But good news- I washed my hair like five times and did a bunch of hair masks and it finally is almost gone! I'm thinking that maybe it happened because I bleached my hair and it became sort of sensitive, and the chemicals dried out my hair so much that it felt like plastic. It still was kinda scary though, I thought I was going to have to chop off my hair.

Next time I'll just wear a hood!

I don't remember the water in Grizzly River Run being as gross as the water in Splash Mountain. I wonder why.

Don't ride Splash Mountain in front with your mouth open. You'll be spitting out pool water for hours afterwards.
