  • [Fun] Favorite rides that were never built, but you wish were built

It's great when Imagineers come up with great concepts for attractions or rides, and they come to fruition. What sucks is when Imagineers come up with great concepts, but for some reason, they never happen. What are some attractions or rides that never happened, but you wish happened? I'll start.

Herbie the Love Bug ride: I mentioned this before in another thread, but I'll mention it again. This ride was based on, you guessed it, The Love Bug. It was supposed to go in Fantasyland. The ride vehicles were planned to perform tricks like tipping over, wheelies and splitting apart, just as it happens in the film. This ride looked like it would have been a blast. I wish they'd reconsider the attraction, and put it somewhere in DCA, if there's any room left.

    Concept art:

Geyser Mountain: This was a a Tower of Terror-like ride. It was planned to go in Frontierland. Basically, we would have gotten trapped in an old mine shaft, shot up then shot back down. I'm sad this never happened!

I can't seem to find any concept artwork for the attraction.

Indiana Jones and the Lost Expedition (or what Indy was supposed to be): Probably the biggest disappointment of all... Indiana Jones and the Lost Expedition would have had a HUMONGOUS show building, as it would have housed the Indy attraction we have today, a mine cart coaster ride, a piece of the Jungle Cruise, which was going to pass through AND the Disneyland Railroad was going to pass through this giant! Can you say AMAZING?! Two attractions in one, plus two other attractions passing through it. Undoubtedly, this would have been the best attraction in all of the Disney parks around the world, let alone Disneyland Park. Such a shame this didn't happen.

For me it's Marc Davis' Western River Expedition @ WDW. Had it been built I think it would have been a classic right up with Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion.

        WestCot.

If I had to pick just one ride though, it would for sure be Indiana Jones and the Lost Expedition.

Love the Indy Minecart (I'm hoping they still consider doing it for the third gate) and Herbie the Love Bug(new one for me, thanks!)

The Crocodile Aquarium intended for Fantasyland.
            Fear of the unknown.

They are afraid of new ideas.

They are loaded with prejudices, not based upon any reality, but based onÖ if something is new, I reject it immediately because itís frightening to me. What they do instead is just stay with the familiar.

If the original Indy Land concept were built it would, even in this day and age of attractions, still be considered the benchmark for all theme park companies to surpass.

I think that they might have been referring to this version:

The Chinatown street that was proposed, for off of Main Street

Firework Factory, a shooting gallery, was never built (though there was a Fireworks Factory restaurant at Walt Disney World for a while).

At one time, a DisneySea type of park was proposed for Long Beach, California.

Actually, another that I would have loved seeing is a proposal I saw for the "new" Tomorrowland in the 90s. It featured a lot of greenery and landscaping. A much more attractive, ecologically sound Tomorrowland. If someone knows what I'm talking about and would like to post pictures, that would be great.

I have to go with Western River Expedition. . . from what I've read about it, that would definitely have been an E-ticket. . .

I am stuck on choosing WestCOT or DisneySEA for Long Beach. Both sound neat and looked beautiful in the horrible quality Concept Drawings.

Indiana Jones hands down. Would have truly been something else.
