  • [Other] White Rabbit in 'trouble' again

Attached is a link to a news story about another 'incident' involving the White Rabbit. IMO the family in this video were in the wrong to do what they did and should have known better. I don't know why DL doesn't have 'handlers' to accompany the characters when they're out & about. I think the White Rabbit should have handled it better, but certainly understand why he reacted the way he did.

I think the girl and those responsible for her should have been shown the way out of the park. Responsible people working are asked to dismiss almost anything and everything that unrully individuals do. It's things like this that cause Alice, the Hatter, the March Hare and the doormouse to have their mad tea parties.

        Eeeek.

I've always thought the characters *did* have handlers -every time I've seen characters at the park, whether they have been roaming or in a fixed M&G, they've always had at least one uniformed CM hovering around them and standing reasonably close. I wonder why there wasn't one here.

I agree that I understand why the Rabbit was ticked and I thought that the Disney response was spot on. It could have been handled better but they shouldn't have been pulling at his costume. Anyone, costumed character or not, might react defensively if someone touches or pulls at their clothes. That father should have been stopping the girls, not egging them on and taping it.

Really having trouble deciding who the bigger bottom feeders are here. The bratty kids (who look as big as adults, especially from the limited view of a character mask), the piss poor excuse for parents, the lower than ambulance chaser attorney or the desperate for a story, yellow journalistic news reporting agencies. One thing is for sure...it ain't the poor guy doing a tough job in a character costume.

I don't think this was the right reaction from the performer, but the family is clearly mostly to blame here. Who would defend their kids acting like this? Especially given that they are 14?? Please.

            Disney response was spot on.

Also... I'd have to imagine that the White Rabbit characters have been in especially delicate positions these past few weeks. This atmosphere may have explained why the performer was more on edge.

Re: White Rabbit in 'trouble' again

I agree that the fault is definitely on the family, and I agree that the White Rabbit has every right to be angry, but the White Rabbit should've definitely handled that better. Grabbing, cursing, and pushing the girls is not the right way of handling that situation, especially since all those are fire-able offenses. But really, what could of the White Rabbit have done? I'm wondering too why there wasn't a handler there watching over the characters. Sadly, now that this video is out on the internet, whoever was in the White Rabbit suit is probably fired now

Also, it's really dumb that this video is going to be used as evidence for the 'Racist White Rabbit' case. These are two clearly different subject matter. They're really grabbing straws, aren't they -__-

I don't work at Disneyland in Anaheim as a character performer, but I do at another location. Tail pulling is almost guaranteed to happen if the character has a tail. Character performers are expected to more or less tolerate this and snapping once will almost certainly cost the performer their job. I can understand why the performer may react this way, if this was happening all day and the frustration and anger building up can get the better of you. However, what the performer did is a massive no-no and they would have known this.

Thankfully, Walt would have never seen this in his park. It is sad enough that this family would act like that but then they act like they are victims to top it all off. I would like to see what would happen to them if they did the same to any random person on the street while their father laughs about it.

Well, if this happened to some random person on the street (who happened to be wearing a rabbit suit, so let's say it was in Hollywood) and he reacted the same, that random person probably would have been arrested for assaulting a minor. Not defending the family here, just saying you can't do that to a 14 year old girl.

I'm guessing this person is already no longer an employee, and that there will be a settlement soon. So, the family wins in the long run. If he just called security and they were politely shown out of the park it would have ruined their day instead of resulting in a paycheck.

There's no possible way the way too audible voice saying "Don't even start your ... with me" comes from inside the costume head. Everything else is blocked by the costume, so, all we have to go on is the testimony of someone who was grinning through the whole video.

I think if people want to sue they be given a choice of taking the settlement and being banned from Disneyland forever. Or just move on in life and not try to make a quick buck.

She'd be all upset and angry if someone came up and flipped her "tail." The parents need to be shamed for not teaching respect for personal space. Someone being in a costume gives no one permission to do anything that a person wouldn't like to have done to them.

Re: White Rabbit in 'trouble' again

I hate to say it, but as wrong as the family was - in fact I only saw a lot of wrong in this video - I can't think of any excuse for the character to put his hands on a guest in any manner, except perhaps a nice hug. Sadly, dealing with tail pulling, kicking, poking, and the like are part of the job. It sucks, and it's wrong, but it's part of the job.
Yes, the father was wrong for allowing it, and not even trying to tell the kids to stop - and I would imagine that if that type of permissive parenting is typical, he'll have a lot more serious, real problems with the kids in the future.
Disney should have had an escort out there to help keep an eye on the characters, knowing that this type of behavior is to be expected from guests.
But, the cast member should have known how to handle the situation better. At the least, he could have walked away and gone back stage.
It also doesn't look like that excessive or violent of a response. The girl was clearly smiling the whole time. if the family was truly interested in "justice" instead of making a buck, they'd simply go through Disney chanels and not get the media involved.

The whole situation is just rotten.
