  • News Old Fantasyland Skyway station to be demolished after holidays

David Koenig reported today that Disneyland cast members have been told that the old Fantasyland Skyway station "will be torn down after the Christmas season." He said the reason for removing the structure is that Walt Disney Imagineering "has no plans for the structure and was not interested in keeping it any longer."

(I thought about whether this should be listed as "Rumor," but David Koenig has a pretty good record on goings on in Disneyland, including the recent closure of the Court of Angels for the Club 33 expansion.)

Another link to the park Walt Disney created is disappearing. While it appears the building has long since fallen into disrepair, the demolition of the building is sad news, IMHO.

It's not a major loss, but it's one of those things that's fun to see if you know the history. I guess, like the PM tracks, you could also argue that it's a sad reminder of what once was. So removing that reminder might not be a terrible thing.

Love it how they don't have any money to build anything new but plenty of money to tear something down.

Feral cats live in it, there's no practical use for it now.

Pictures and reminisces from old threads...

          Skyway ride

Why was the Skyway house never taken down?

          Such a crime!

Why can't we have the Skyway again?

It is sad in my opinion that no one could think of anything creative to put in there, making use of that space and keeping the historic value of it.

I remember as kid how cool it was to ride the Skyway through the Matterhorn. But jeesh how long has that been? Frankly I don't want Disneyland to become a museum. Of course, if something still works they shouldn't scrap it (or worst modify it to slow death) just to pretend like they are really making improvements to the park. But in this case since it hasn't functioned in years and never will again I don't care. Tear it down before it becomes a hazard to anyone. I would love to have duplicate Disneylands from each era so everything is preserved but that's not how the world works. The one overriding reality in the universe is change.

Does that mean the Louvre, or the Eiffel Tower, the great pyramids of Egypt or the Great Wall of China should be torn down just because they have been there too long? The only reason to take out an attraction is lack of interest.
When I go to Disneyland, I tune my FRS Radio to channel 2, without a quiet code. They're faster than a cell phone and you can talk to a whole group at a time, and you don't have to get everyone's cell phone number in advance.

Re: old Fantasyland Skyway station to be demolished after holidays

You all know what's incredibly stupid .. if this is true?

                  * It's not in the way of anything.
                  * It's not like they could build an attraction in it's place.
                  * It adds aesthetics to the area - Isn't Disneyland about those hidden details?!!!
                  * There's a historic value to the building. It's not some ugly fiberboard monstrosity - there's detail into the wood work.

This makes just as much sense as removing the Bonita Tower Water falls, the fort on Tom Sawyer Island, and Cascade Peek.

                  For what? An empty hill?

                  A piece of grass?
A part of the island you can't walk through anymore?
                  Over grown shrubs?

I hope this is not true .. for the reasons I've listed.

Dear Peoplemover Fans, If you want to see a new attraction that at least mimics the 1967 Peoplemover in a future Tomorrowland remodel, you need to write to the powers-that-be, and let them know. If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.

^^ Pretty much agree why take it out for no reason. That's a waste of money honestly and they seemed to be so concerned about money.

Really? You are comparing this to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and the Pyramids? Really? Wow.

Maybe they do have a reason that just has not been disclosed to us. Perhaps a small infrastructure improvement? Or maybe remove it to keep others from remembering that there once was an attraction there? Why now? Why not? It's their property.

OWEN: When they took out the skyway chalet in Florida's Magic Kingdom it was because of termite damage that made it unsafe. But at least they put something nice in its place--Rapunzel's village which serves as restrooms and a picnic area. I wish Disneyland's skyway chalet would be replaced by Rapunzel's tower!!!

I always thought it could make an interesting restaurant location. Nice view of Fantasyland. It would be nice if they could save some of the facade and woodwork and try to reuse it.
                            What's behind that hill?

Those feral cats live on property and are Disneyland's free vermin extermination service...I do hope they will be relocating their feeding stations and shelter.
