  • Anybody else really into the theme parks, but characters, not so much?

Okay, first of all, I do have love for the Fab Five and the other characters, but I've always been into the Disney parks way more than them or Disney films. I'm an admitted Disney geek, but for me it's all about DL, WDW, etc. Am I alone? Just curious.

Side note: I miss theme park original characters: as a kid, I loved my Big Al and Figment (and Shamu, for non-Disney) plushes as much as my Kermit, Ralph (Muppet), Baloo, and Elliot (Pete's dragon). Bring back orginal park characters!

See, the thing is with me...they always have the same characters. Pooh and friends, Princesses, Fab Five, Chip 'n' Dale. I haven't seen Roger Rabbit around in a long time. The other parks get Robin Hood characters and other ones we don't get. If we do, they are in a parade or Fantasmic!, that's it. I'd like a little more variety.

Oh, DL has them all (trust me, I have seen their heads hanging on the wall!) I guess its just a matter of having enough performers to play them all. They do come out occasionally, like for Grad night you can usually see all kinds of them. Also you can find them a lot during the day- Adventureland has Timon and Captain Hook, Main Street gets Alice and Mary Poppins and the Penguins. Basically its a hit or miss kinda thing most of the time.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to be forced to treat you like an outcast.....

With Disney, it is all or nothing... Yu must like EVERYTHING they do, or nothing...

Except DCA... in DCA's case, you must hate it.
And Paul Pressler. You must hate him.. and Cynthia.... and of course Eisner.

I'm reminded of a South Park episode....

Kyle gets his heart broken and is feeling really sad.... He starts hanging out with the goth kids. The call everyone non-goth "conformists", like it's an insult. Then, they start telling him how he has to do everything.... How to dress, what to eat, what music to listen to, how to write poetry about how sad he is.... Ths punch-line is when they say something to the effect of "If you want to be a non-conformist, then you have to be exactly like us."

All "real" theme park fans love Disney characters, and I simply can't be seen talking to

I posed with pinnochio on my grad night...never seen him since.
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
                Marge: Pink.
                Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

Personally I like my Tigger's frisky and fun, I don't about the rest of you but getting felt up while taking a picture is really a thrill

Bad joke? Too soon? I was gonna make a crack about MJ and DL but its no good yet.

I like the characters well enough to be happy when my kids get to pose for pictures with them, and I like Goofy just because he's, well, Goofy.

But for me, it's all about the park itself. I'd rather just see the sights and ride the rides and enjoy the theme. I'll see and appreciate the characters in their original venues, on screen.

I'm not a huge character fan myself. I like the movies and the parks, and I do have may favorite characters (Chernabog, Stitch, Beast, Belle and Ariel, Sprite mainly), but parks do not equal characters, or vice versa. I feel no great desire to have tshirts with characters faces emblazoned across them, or to go say hi to the costumed characters in the park, even if they are my favs...

I like the parks, and the characters, I just don't need them to be combined to enjoy one or the other...

dshimel, you are so right, i hang my head in shame... Okay, let me (vainly?) attempt to re-route this discussion: OMG! I love all the Disney characters so much, but I really really love the ones that originated as part of DL/WDW attractions like Big Al and Figment and uhhhh.... can you name some more?
