  • [Question] How much does your day/trip cost you on average?

    Hi guys!

I'm new here. My husband and I are coming to Disneyland for our honeymoon from BC, Canada. After pre-paying for our flights, hotel, passes and transportation it made me wonder how much others on average have paid for their trip/day?

Ofcourse, having only been to DL when I was a child I don't even know a ball-park price on how much food etc will be but with all our passes/hotel/flight/transportation/travel insurance/activities (we are doing DL 3 days, Knotts, Med. Times, Univ Studios, LA tour) came to about $1800/pp not including ofcourse any food or shopping down there.

How much do YOU spend after all is said and done for 1 day in 'the happiest place on earth'
How much did your well planned vaca cost?

    Just curious over here

It all depends on where you're eating and what you're buying.
Before I had an annual pass I probably spent about $50+ on food (because I wanted to enjoy every meal in the parks and I love the costly snacks [churros, corn on the cob])
I also made sure to buy one FANTASTIC souvenir and a few cheaper things. So, total I probably spent $100-$200 in the parks.
But after my AP, I only spent about $10-$50 in the parks.
You can save a ton of money by not eating on resort property

We usually spend $775/pp on airfare, hotel, food and park tickets for 4 days.

Then about $60/day or less on food. We usually grab breakfast outside the park, eat snacks like churros, popcorn, pretzels, etc. in the park, and buy coffee, etc., then buy dinner in the park. And then more snacks. We go once a year so we don't really hold back.

It really depends on what you eat... Sit down meals can cost 30-50 per person. Cafeteria style meals are usually in the 15-18 per person range and counter service is usually 10-15 per person.

Yes, we purchased the City Pass; although we will NOT be going to Sea World it was cheaper than buying the 3 day hopper & Universal ticket!

We booked at the Hotel Menage- have you heard of it? Looked nice online. We're 27 & 24 with no kids, so this hotel looked appealing to us. Hope we made a good choice

For transportation we booked hotel->universal, hotel to Knotts and the LA tour through our travel agent for ($40 per person for transfers). This seemed like a pretty normal amount. Well, I hope!

We are staying for 7 days:
              Friday is a free day
              Saturday: LA & Hollywood tour
              Sun, Mon: Disneyland
              Tues: Knotts & Med. Times
              Wed: Universal Studios
              Thurs: Disneyland

Well my last trip was an arm and a leg so I am typing this one handed now.

seriously though a trip for three days at the park driving from AZ ($160 for has), off site hotel($500), tickets for two adults and two kids($800), food ($300)and a couple of souvenirs for me ($100)and a trip to the Lego store for the kids runs ($100) about $2000 or so. A lot of money for a few days but to me is so worth it.

ultimately it depends on what you want to splurge on and what you can skimp on.

Re: How much does your day/trip cost you on average?

                    $15 parking
                    $15 snacks
                    $30 food

I don't commonly buy souvenirs, and I bring a CamelBak full of water, so no need to buy drinks (unless I stop at the Carthay for a Manhattan!). But I'll commonly buy a popcorn or a pretzel, and something in the afternoon. One bigger better meal, and my other meal will be something quick and cheap.

                    Have a great trip!

Re: How much does your day/trip cost you on average?

Great Question. The cost can vary dramatically. I can get my girlfriend and myself down there for $400 each for days in the parks with enough Air Miles (8000+) Otherwise the cost can be dramatic. $2000 sounds about right for a trip.

It's a very interesting dichotomy. I am always fascinated that people (including myself) will spend thousands and thousands of dollars for just a few days in the park, while AP holders spend dollars on the day for constant visits. Definitely two very different experiences and appreciations for the resort.

Train travel from Salem oregon $230 round trip, riding in sleeper one way is an additional 200 to 350 for two people. ( that includes all meals, wine tasting , unlimited beverages, shower and quiet. very little rest though!!)

taxi from train to motel is 7-9 dollars.
                        Motel 6 is 65.00 x 5

We eat our afternoon value menu meals at McD across the street.

We walk an hour each way to purchase fresh food for our breakfast, and late evening dinner. (park snacks are purchased in oregon)
the only food we eat in the park are traditional ice cream mickey mouse heads.

Re: How much does your day/trip cost you on average?

We run between $1000 and $1100 USD per day all in, including fuel, parking, lodging, tickets, souvenirs, and food for a family of 5.

That breaks down to staying at the Grand, Driving from AZ and valeting, eating at higher-end restaurants (C33, Carthay, Blue Bayou, Napa), and getting generous souvenirs (like D&B purse for wife).

Re: How much does your day/trip cost you on average?

                            200-240 for airfare generally.

$35-50 a night for accommodations ( work in the hotel industry and get employee rates.)

                            Free breakfast at the hotel.

5-7 a day inside the park for a snack instead of having lunch. Drink from water fountains free vs buying drinks.

10 or so for dinner at Subway generally.

3 day park hopper (not sure what the current price is)

                            40 ground transportation roughly.

                            misc expenses needed travel insurance.

I don't buy any souvenirs, so no spending there.

I can go for 3 days pretty cheap, highest cost of the trip is the tickets to get into the park.

(I mix my trips into family visits in San Diego, so that is why my Disney trips are 3 days.)

Total cost including everything (air fare, food, hotel, etc) is about $600 per day for our family of three during a 5 day trip to the parks.
                              For WDW it's about $800 a day.
