  • Disneyland: Thread Searches

After getting numerous messages on how to use the search function, I have decided to refrain from posting anything for a while.

Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
      Marge: Pink.
      Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

Don't refrain from posting anything. Don't let others dictate what you should do. This is America, if you feel like saying something no matter if it's been said before, then do it.

Free speech isn't protected on a private message board.

if you want to be literal, then fine, there's no free speech here. i'm trying to persuade him to not be afraid to speak. (it's rough on these message boards to say anything, considering a lot of folks on here have so much time on their hands to dissect every message and thought.)

One person left me a message that I have a "bad" attitude. Excuse me. People tell me to search all the threads before I post. I think that there would be overlap for a lot of these posts if everyone searched before they posted.

                      JC,

I'm one of the people in here who sent you a private message about checking the "search" function and only meant it in a constructive way. It appears that many get a "rush" about a subject and start a new thread without checking for previous similar threads.

Since many are passionately involved with everything Disney in here, they put a lot of thought and time into responding, replying and continuing a thread.

When one sees a subject that has been done to death re-appear in another form, it can be frustrating. It's apparent that the poster has not paid any attention to what has gone before or even bothered to see if there's already a discussion going on.

I told you privately that I appreciate your input and enthusiasm and in no way want you to quit joining the group discussions. This is a tough group in here who dissect every word you type and they shoot from the hip. I think that is a good thing since it makes you think before you submit the reply for all to see.

When I posted my question on tips for Disneyland, I was told to use the search engine. I just think, that the fun of posting online, and I do not even know if that's correct terminology, since I am new at this; is to just ask the question and hope someone reading the new posts will provide you with the answer. It is definitely quicker to get an answer that way, and definitely more fun. If I want to do research, I will go to the library. Problem with that is the library does not have the answers to those questions pertaining to matters of the heart and the soul of the Disney Park enthusiast.

I agree that people shoul not be afraid to post. Do not be afraid to ask the question. I also think that if you don't want to provide the answer, than it is kinder not too respond. I think the "go look it up' response definitely will drive some people away. Just my opinion. Grew up afraid to speak my mind. Careful with my words. Try to help usually. Try not to preach. So I better end this post because I have received a lot of help online for planning my trips to WDW and Disneyland this year, and I want this to remain thhe pleasant experience that it has been so far.

I really don't understand why being told to search sticks in people's craws so much on this board. The search link is really easy to click and if you're looking for a specific answer to a specific question, it's a lot faster than posting and waiting - if the answer already exists. Otherwise, anyone who's been around a little longer sees that the thread looks familiar, and ends up doing the search for you and linking you to the answer. Why not cut out the middleman and check it out on your own?

Maybe it's the computer scientist in me talking, but Google is always, always my first resource. The people who write these computer tools do it so that we can get relevant information instantaneously, and I don't know where I would be without search engines. They're great tools, they're incredibly intuitive, and they're placed on the toolbar in a convenient way (which wasn't always the case on this message board engine!) so I don't understand why it's such an imposition to ask people to search.

No offense to anyone - I just really like the self-sufficiency that search functions provide and wish others appreciated it too. It seems like there's so much acrimony over this that makes little sense to me.

If you post enough, someone is going to disagree with you at some point. If you have thin skin, you're going to get bruised. That's why we have reputation, to keep people from being too abusive. If you only get occasional negative comments or rep, then you should be happy.

It wouldn't be much fun if we all agreed with each other all the time.

Take your licks, and move on. If someone is abusing you or another member, give them negative rep. If it is something major, notify a Mod.

(personal note: I forget to "Search" before starting a new thread all the time. If it is becomes a problem, a Mod will merge the threads or PM you to be more careful. It really isn't a big deal.)
