Here's a few scenes from Disneyland in 1968. Enjoy.

Yep, those are 'Mermaids' in there.

Also I found a bonus picture.. this isn't from 1968, but from 1960!!!

I'm not sure who the kid is, but thats one of the native americans that Disney used to employ for the Indian Village in Frontierland. Kinda cool huh?

Excellent pics! The one with the Indian, I mean Native American, is too cool. That colorful band is neat too. I don't think I ever saw one of those before. They should bring it back.

      Thanks for the pictures!

Maybe this is just my imagination, but I find it funny how in every set of 'vintage' pictures, there's a quick set from that carnations stage, but nowadays in picture updates it's rarely referenced

How wonderful, thank you! I am so happy to see the IASW was gold and white!!!! I was worried it was always ugly with pinks and blue.

Do you have any idea what kind of camera was used for these pics?

None at all. These were all taken before I was born. These would have been taken by my grandfather who passed away years ago.

These are really great pictures. I've never seen one of the mermaids in the lagoon, from just a snapshot of someone's trip, I mean. I love checking out the clothes on the women.

                  Thanks for sharing!

                    Re: Disneyland 1968

I just noticed... some of the photos is dated Apr 69. Were these printed a few months later?

And, judging by the photos, I'm guessing most of them were taken by one of the box-style cameras, like a Kodak Brownie or an Agfa Shureshot, which took a medium-format 640 film. (I believe that's the number -- after over 100 years of production, Kodak discontinued the film in the early 80s, but 120 film can be used with minor modification.)

The third Small World picture was not taken at the same time as the others and with most likely a different camera (or possibly at a different photo lab).

Wow, was the smog really that bad in the 1960s?
                      Nice pics, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the pics! Great memories there. Yes, I was alive way back then and vaguely recall mermaids in the sub lagoon from time to time. Just another example of "surprise" Disney magic... You didn't come expecting to see them (like a character meet and greet) but there they were, just adding to the magic.

Those mermaids also confirm an old suspicion of mine that Walt didn't consider the subs to be purely a Tomorrowland attraction (as some on these boards have insisted). It was a transition between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland and so incorporated both elements of future science and fantasy (note the wacky see serpent at the end). Nemo Subs will do the same thing.

Watch the original "Austin Powers" and you'll now realize that Hollywood wasn't exaggerating the sorts of things people were wearing in the Swinging 60s.

My last childhood trip to Disneyland was in 1968, and these photos bring back great memories!
