  • DisneySea as 3rd Park?

Is the strawberry field large enough to fit a DisneySea park?

Is there any chance this could ever happen?

Rumor has it that the Pirates of the Caribbean themed water park may go there.

I'm not sure about how much room there is.

There isn't enough room for a full sized Disneysea. It is a big park. It would also work much better on the ocean or surrounded by lakes to simulate sea ports.

However, there was some talk of Disney building a botique park which would have a limited number of "Rides" which would offer much longer and more immersive experience. The park would only admit a small number of guests at a huge daily price. Think Sea World's Discovery Cove in Florida in scope and limited numbers.

I wasn't crazy about the idea then, and I'm not much happier with the notion of a water park in chilly California either. Even though I love Pirates.

If we do get a 3rd gate, I'd like it to be something new. And I'd like for them to wait until after Eisner is gone and when they are willing to spend the 3 Billion dollars that it takes to build a full day park.

from what I hear a third gate isn't even on the radar as far as the management at DLR is concered for the moment (I don't really believe everything that man, Jim of Hill says and besides even Jim said that location wasn't specific and everything was very blue sky)

as far as land use goes check out this post I made at Mouseinfo with a aerial pic of the land

          http://www.miboards.com/forums/showp...79&postcount=2

it also gives my views on how to cut it up and what neighboring lands Disney could buy out to create the best resort expansion in this area

The information given to the Anaheim Planning Dept (always subject to change) was that the original intention of the land purchase was for a developed water park. Initial plans met with approval. After the DCA opening, plans got put on hold. Only top-levels know what's going on now...

Cool map and ideas. My bias would be for more "park" and less "hotels" though it is inevitable they'd build some high-end hotel.

For sure not enough space for DisneySeas and I think it would be a great injustice to build one here. I have never been a DCA sucks kinda guy but before they think of doing anything with any extra land they need to put something into not only DCA but also DL. Which is what it looks like they have been doing, it has been I think 3 years since 3rdgate.com died. Even the water park/mini golf course would not be a good idea at this time. Just keep it as cm parking and work on what you have.

well even DisneySeas has a hotel built over the entrance

the plans mostly call for buying up existing hotels but the idea of building one off in the one space is because I was trying to make the land and park layout less of an odd shape more of a circle

as far as park theme goes I wouldn't want a direct Disneysea port anyways

and Westcot seems kinda dumb to me

I'd pefer to see a bit of a fusion between AK/Epcot and DisneySeas

if you guys are interested I could draw up a primative map in a couple of days to give you an idea of how the park could be layed out and such

as far as when they should built the third gate goes I'd rather wait ten or even as long as twenty years and have them do it right

the resort needs to mature before they add another park

Although I myself would prefer an original third park, after looking at all the stuff about DisneySea online and whatnot, I would love to have one over here. The problem with importing it, of course, would be that it would no doubt to be a scaled-down version of the park, what with the size difference and likely budget difference. The last thing the resort needs is another scaled-down import.
I say they should focus on improving California Adventure before they consider adding in another park.

Agreed. When Disney posted the 3rd gate website a few years ago, they called it a greatest hits or best of park. How do you make DCA look good? Build a park that is even worse.

I guess I can accept why people seem to enjoy getting imported attractions. But the idea of importing an ENTIRE park (DisneySea)... That's just insane.
I really dislike the fact that Disney thinks its okay to re-use old ideas at every single themepark. It's not okay, in my book. I'd rather get actual NEW rides instead of new imported rides. Having everything that the other parks have in California does not make me want to travel to Florida or Paris or Tokyo to check out the other Resorts...

I don't like that I give Disney so much money every time I visit their themeparks and they can't even create a new E-Ticket for the paying public. It's a slap in the face if you ask me that we get repeat rides... We're not good enough to get new rides regardless of how much we spend....

The idea of a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed water park is even cheap. They should think of something else to use. Heck, I might even prefer a medley of original Little Mermaid, Atlantis, and Nemo themes at the waterpark before a whole water park based on a ride that you can go on just across the esplanade....

But actually, I'd say forget a third gate until a full-day price can actually be justified for DCA. Spend the money on DCA and make that a good place to go for a full day and add a couple new ETicekts at DL as well and THEN add the 3rd park.

considering that every Disney resort in existance has an MK and that each MK is basicaly a ride for ride clone of Disneyland I don't quite see the flaw in expecting the third gates to be treated the same way

don't get me wrong I like that they are making changes but it's fairly obvious that DCA was an effort to clone MGM except with the addition of a few things from Animal Kingdom (river rapids ride and It's Tough to Be a bug) plus a generic amusment park themed area was added as well

and TokyoSea is obviously derived from Epcot (the different countries represented a science area, the difference here is they dropped the boring country's and themed the science areas to more of what Paris got with Discoveryland) they almost inverted it though instead of the locations all surrounding a lake it's an island surrounded by water

and DisneyStudio's is blatantly a poor man's MGM

I'm glad that they do give us origional attractions and make significant differences between the clones and the origionals

but honestly? only the hardcore fans are going to travel from resort to resort and that's not Disney's goal

Disney's goal is to grab as much of your money as possible meaning that they don't want you to spend alot of money on other things (like say Travel) and they want you to stay at their resorts for as long as possible (hence the multiple parks/pools/shopping areas/other resort stuff)

and putting all of that aside Disney doesn't have total ownership of any of their overseas parks

so yes I'd expect to see a bit of mishmesh and retheming and other interesting type things for our third gate but I don't expect Disney to give each and every park 7 unique rides, most parks just need a relativly unique icon and maybe one unique ride (all the other rides will have plenty of differences)

I've just about got my DisneySeas/Epcot hybrid park planned out though I think most people would actualy like how it might turn out if Disney were to actualy build it
