  • Cast Members hired at age 17?

Are there any out there...in the parks? Or here on MiceChat? Or does Disneyland just hire folks 18 and over? If a friend of mine who is 17 and a soon to be senior in high school wants to become a CM, is he eligible to be hired as an attraction(the position he wants to work in) cast member?

at this point, I hope they start hiring people no matter what their age. DL needs CM's big time!

Yesterday the park est was 43k, and I waited in a line almos 2 minutes at the village haus for lunch! I dont want to know how long the lines would be if the park hit 65k!

I thought anyone that Disney hired for the themeparks had to be 18 years of age at least.

They WILL hire under 18, but they are picky. Fewer and fewer departments are accepting them. Basically if you are a minor, you need to be a graduating senior in high school.
Attractions will not accept under 18, just think of the liability.
Personally I would wait, it's just a hassle.

The requirement for most departments is 17 and a graduating senior, although some departments are very lenient with the ages as long as you can do the job.

Probably too young. I was hired for the Electrical Parade at 17, but only had 2 months to be 18, and it was my senior year. Their leasees used to hire as low as 16; you worked at the park, but you weren't a Disney employee. However, that was 35 years ago.

I think the biggest reasons they don't hire 17 year olds, is so they don't have to mess with Child Labor Laws. There are laws for 16/17's as far as numer of hours / day they can work, how late at night, ect.

Those child labor laws magically disappear once a person turns 18. It makes scheduling much, much easier if you don't have to keep track of which kids are under 18 and have to leave at 10 pm and which kids are 18 and can be scheduled to 2 am.

By law, you must be 18 or over to fill any role that requires you to use heavy machinery, and most attractions count as heavy machinery. In a restaurant, you wouldn't be allowed to use dough mixers or any of the other industrial kitchen equipment. Plus, scheduling individuals over 18 is a heck of a lot easier, as others have mentioned.

That being said, I do know of Cast Members who are minors, but I don't know them personally...

woah.. how did I miss that! I ment to say 20 minutes.

20 minute wait with 43K est (dont know actual,) is not good.

I have been told by a cm that they have had many miners work on BTRR. but I don't know if they will be able to put in the loop.
