  • WARNING --- 2007, SPRING, No outside food, strollers or WATER brought into the park!

I was fortunate enough to be in Disneyland this past week. During a park hop from DCA to DL, I thought I would quickly run to Mcdonalds and get a couple milk shakes.

Each day we had saved some money by purchasing a few items on their 1.00 menu and brought them into the park and ate them cold but we always put the items in our camera bag. We never brought in McDonalds Bags or were obvious about it.

In fact, each day we brought our own stroller, 6 bottles of water from Costco and some fruit bars and oatmeal bars. Nothing huge but snacks.

On this day, my wife kept the camera bag and as I went through the Yellow Security Tent, it struck me that I would not be able to hide anything. So I asked the CM at security and she said I would be escorted (YES... ESCORTED) to their PICNIC area where I could eat before entering the park.

I then went back to my wife and as we entered DL, I asked the entrance CM about that and he said that, today, as long as we were not bringing in too much, they turn the other way, but no outside advertising such as a fast food bag or drink tray with cups.

Then he went on to say that next Spring, there is a plan to expand the picnic area and force all people to consume their outside food before entering the park.

I can understand this, but then he said that the policy will also include all Water bottles. Guests will have to use the fountains or purchase water. Now as I simply will not use a public water fountain and drink unfiltered water.... this is HUGE!!!! 6 bottles a day at 2.75 a "pop" is 16.50 a day or 82.50 over a 5 day park hopper visit!!!

This is insane. Food, Ok.... but water is a basic human need... I guess so is food but not as desperate on a hot day while standing in line.

Outside baby strollers will also be parked outside in this new picnic area unless the baby is sleeping or an infant. Then you will have to pay daily for a rental. (THIS LAST POINT SEEMED TO BE A LITTLE MORE CONJECTURE AND OPINION ON THE CM'S POINT)

    Anyways... we must stop this!!!

I'll believe it when I see it, and no sooner. Front-line CMs are fed all sorts of misinformation.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

But they basically repeated what the Yellow Tent perosn said..... why would they feed misinformation?

I am not doubting you, but I wish to be a positive contributer to this site and do not want to start rumours.

        There's a couple reasons I doubt this:
        a) Diabetics
        b) Small children
        c) Lawyers

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I like the idea of disallowing the big strollers. I think Walt Disney World already has this policy.

PI: Well, now there's information to go off of. You say this is already policy in WDW? To what extent? How they do things in (gag) Florida CAN be taken as a warning for how they might do things out here. Is it all personal strollers or just the Urban Assault Vehicles?

I would doubt the part about no outside water bottles. I want to say there is some law about that where you can take bottled water into any place if you need to.

I doubt Disney will stop allowing small amounts of snacks and water bottles because of the reasons Morrigoon said. Disney doesnt want to risk lawsuits because they made a diabetic toss their water.

Anyways, keep in mind you can get a free cup of ice water at pretty much any restaurant or food service location with a soda fountain. I do it all the time. The water might not always taste the greatest since it's just tap water, but if it saves $2.75 and I stay hydrated, it's totally worth it.

they can't ban outside water (even if they wanted to get picky, if you tore the label off you're not advertising anything at all). law or not that's unenforcable and ridiculous and they wouldn't think about it :P

outside strollers? meh no clue i guess it's possible. they'd better think up some better rentable strollers though(i loved shamu and dolphin strollers at seaworld when i was little =D).

Let's just wait and see what does end up hapening. Even if they do end up banning outside water, I'm sure the collective brain power on Micechat can come up with some way of subverting the rule.

Here's another vote towards 'not happening'. With a hypoglycemic wife, it's exceedingly clear: she needs some small snacks and a bottle of water at all times, and they simply cannot expect her to rely on their internal water supplies and snack availability. All it takes is one hypoglycemic (such as my wife) to get dizzy and take a nasty fall and voila, nasty 'no water or food' rule will go bye bye.

They MAY start cracking down on people bringing meals into the park and eating them, but that's been the policy for as long as I can remember: if you've brought your own meals, eat them in the picnic area only. It's even on the tram spiel.

As for strollers, this is one of those 'you can't take away an entitlement' issues. Good luck having the tram guys explain to the vast hordes of families, often non-English-speaking, that the fully-stocked Stroller Assault Vehicle they brought will have to stay outside, and they'll have to shell out cash for their kids.

No way, not a chance. Besides, what exactly does it gain Disney except some more stroller rentals?

the CM's wouldn't give out bad information on purpose. But the CM ranks are filled with rumors and gossip too. I can see how a rumor could easily spread through out the "front gate area" (meaning ticket sellers, bag check folks and the ticket takers)

When I worked there, I heard all kinds of rumors that at the time I passed along to other CM's as fact, only to find out later that it ws partily or completely wrong.

So, until you see it in writing (and not just on this forum) I wouldn't believe stuff about future policy changes....

I like it too...now that my kids are out of the stroller. However, I really see this as hurting their bottom line. If I'm a single parent of two small children...

                            a) I can't push two strollers at once.
                            b) They might have a limited number of those double things which are every bit as cumbersome as those brought in from outside...but what happens when they run out?
                            c) I might not be able to AFFORD the addition 30 or whatever dollars to rent one of those things.

What you have just told me, if I'm a parent of small kids, is you are not welcome here unless you can afford OUR strollers.

I believe message boards would light up across the country, and Disney would get hit in the chops by an irate middle class america who....ON TOP OF FRICKIN GAS PRICES....really just can't afford it anymore.

Presto. Attendance goes down, down, down......

I don't know the specifics, but Disney does limit what kind of strollers you can bring into the park. I believe it's the wagon types (though you could say they technically don't count as strollers).

As for the food issues, I don't have a problem with them enforcing their policy about bringing in outside food - I've seen people having entire meals in the park that were obviously brought in from the outside.

As for the water, I suppose they could do that too, or at least make you leave your water in the picnic area. Since they do provide free water, it would be hard to argue that they're forcing you to buy it. If you don't *like* their water, that's another issue.
