  • Oogies' Retro Disneyland Pictures thread!!!

As I have been going through various blogs looking at various posts and pictures regarding Disneyland in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, I am realizing that all these wonderful pictures of our beloved park should be brought together so that they may be enjoyed by all in a easy to find format. If you have any pre 1980's images of the park, please feel free to post them here. .

Great pics...but ooooh jeepers am I glad that they don't have that clown walking around now. SCARY!! :ceek:

Why, yes, I do have clown phobia. Just seeing that picture made my pulse race.

      Ahhhh! Pennywise

Hmmm, some lack of theming in some areas (like Casey Jr.), well it was a work in progress. With the mule rides, I'm guessing Frontierland had quite an authentic aroma

And once again, thank you for such great vintage pics!!!

Oogie thanks for the link to the great photos. I have never seen a pic of the Barker Bird that clear.

Those are just great memories. Thanks for sharing them and I hope others here have some old pictures to post. I never took any still pictures when I went in the early days. Didn't have a camera. My dad took lots of home movies though so I have some 8mm footage that we transfered to video tape that shows us at Disneyland on opening day and again in 1959 for the new stuff. Now I guess I will have to see about getting the video tapes transfered to DVD.

OMG!! DL's entrance with an metalic fence!! Yuk! How ghetto! I am so glad they took that off. If only they took the one at WDW's MK away as well...

Re: Oogies' Retro Disneyland Pictures thread!!!

Just FYI...Chucko the Clown, pictured there on Main Street, was a TV icon and idol for many of us kids growing up in Southern California. I would have loved to meet him at DL...but I would have been two years old in 1958.

And I do know many people are scared by clowns. To each their own.

                Again, Oogie...these pictures are great.

My contribution to the thread -- a stereo pair:

Not exactly my best scan because it wasn't a scan. I was experimenting with alternate ways of transferring slide film to digital formats at the time.

YES--CHUCKO THE BIRTHDAY CLOWN!! Haven't thought of him in years. He was right up there with Engineer "Red light, green light" Bill and Sheriff "Put another candle on my birthday cake" John.

Sorry, but I said the first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture of Chucko. No disrespect intended. I grew up in the midwest and Bozo the clown was our equivalent.

Disneyland must have been pretty nice back in the day. You guys notice the complete lack of crowds?

Good point. This is during the holiday season, and it's a ghost town!
