  • Question about Walk-Around Characters

I've always wondered this to myself and if its already been asked and answered here before I apologize in advance.

Are the characters (especially the face characters), that do the meet and greets also the same characters(castmembers) that appear in the parade or in Fantasmic? Or do they have seperate castmembers to play each? Thank you in advance!

    Re: Question about Walk-Around Characters

I'm pretty sure that they are different CM's in the parades and shows than the ones that are the atmosphere characters, but I could be wong. I do know that there are separate auditions for parade performers/characters and atmosphere/face characters.

If they're in fact different, I'd guess that the parade folks would be the ones hired more for dancing ability/experience and that sort of thing, and the actual walking characters the folks who had more theater/acting experience, hired for their personality and interaction with guests. It'd be interesting to know if there's red tape or training reasons that would keep one from filling in for the other, I've always wondered if the parade people did other work during the long break between shows.

Maybe it's like cross-training attractions, where CM's would get different types of shifts they could do eventually?

There can be some crossover exceptions, but by and large they are entirely separate departments with entirely separate cast members. It's like Alpine said: the two departments have different requirements (atmosphere needs to be interactive, parade/shows generally need dance experience). Also, stage shows tend to be Union, which is another whole set of rules.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

I have noticed that the Belle, Princess Aurora, and Snow White in the twice daily Parade of Dreams are the same ones that do meet and greets. Peter Pan, who appears in the first float, is also the same, although Alice, and some of the other characters, are definitely different.

How many times do I have to give a answer to this question, so here I go again.

The characters you see are real. When you see Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck it really is Donald and Mickey, please tell me why they would need to have a CM fill in for them when everyone knows they are real and live at the park.
that said if you want to see a CM fill in for a
character go to WDW, as everyone knows our beloved gang of characters live at DL, and not WDW.

So if I'm not mistaken then, it does happen but not in all cases. I always thought it would be cool especially for someone young to have the same Belle that she had met earlier, wave to her during the parade... on the same token it could be pretty disappointing as well if the Belle in the parade was noticably different.

                  Re: Question about Walk-Around Characters

Interesting note when I was at Disneyland last week. My friend wanted to get a picture taken with Cinderella, but the escort CM with her stated that my friend couldnt get in line to get a picture because Cinderella had to finish up to get ready for the evening parade.

So in that instance, that face character also particpated in the parade
There is no right or wrong in this debate. It is simply a matter of perspective.

Well of course, there is only one real Cinderella.
