  • First trip EVER this November

    So I'm going to Disney Land for the first time ever this November. I have a few questions and a desire for tips.

    Are they closing the Aladdin musical? If so when?

    How crowded is it this time of year? (will be going Thanksgiving week)

    When do the christmas decorations go up?

    What attractions are a must see (besides the ones that are also at Disney World)?

    What attractions is Fast Pass available one?

    That is all the questions I can think of at the moment please feel free to give me some general tips. Thanks!

    Well, since you are going Thanksgiving week, expect it to be busy. Monday and Tuesday won't be too bad, but starting Wednesday afternoon and into the evening it will get crazy. T-Day will be busy as well. Friday, Saturday and into Sunday it will be a zoo. It will start to clear out late Sunday and pretty much empty out after the parade and fireworks.

    Yes, you will be able to enjoy the Christmas decorations and even a visit with Santa.

    Do the rides that interest you. Of course, our favorites are: POTC, HM, Space, Splash and Thunder Mountains, Matterhorn, Buzz, etc...

    Have a GREAT time! (we'll be there that week as well)

          Re: First trip EVER this November

          Attractions Not at WDW -
          Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
          Matterhorn
          Indiana Jones
          New Orleans Square
          StoryBook Land Canal Boats
          Alice in Wonderland
          Casey Jr. Circus Train
          Pinocchio
          Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin
          Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes
          Tarzan’s Treehouse
          Columbia Sailing Ship

          There's also that big space across the esplanade called DCA. It's got some pretty good rides, but not nearly as many as you would expect for a Disney park. Have a great time for me viacariosly, I'm suffering Serious Disney Withdrawls.

            Sure, that's what most of us are here for!

            Probably no. The post you may be referring to stated that the Disneyland Calendar of Events online had no shows after September 10th. But another post indicated that they were auditioning for new castmembers, so it may be that the show will go down for a while September 10th and then re-emerge later in the year.

            Thanksgiving week is traditionally very crowded, as lots of children are out of school, and many tourists are in Southern California to see family. Check out the graph below, and note the spike up near the Thanksgiving holiday:

            Holiday decorations haven't been announced, but based upon last year, my best guess is Friday, November 10th.

            That depends on what you like, and what ages are in your party, but Animatronics is what Disneyland does really, really well, so consider this a "top five" list for Disneyland:

            1. Pirates of the Caribbean;
            2. Indiana Jones;
            3. Space Mountain;
            4. Haunted Mansion; and
            5. Splash Mountain,

            among many, many others. We each have our preferences here on Micechat, sometimes strongly professed.

            In California Adventure, consider the following:

            1. Soarin' over California;
            2. Tower of Terror;
            3. Grizzly River Rapids;
            4. California Screamin'; and
            5. The Aladdin show at the Hyperion.

            Same caveats apply here (even more so when talking about DCA).

            There's a sticky at the beginning of this board you should read. Currently the Fastpass attractions for each park are:

            In Disneyland:

            Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
            Indiana Jones Adventure
            Splash Mountain
            Autopia
            Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
            Space Mountain
            Roger Rabbit's CarToon Spin

            At DCA:

            California Screamin'
            Mulholland Madness
            Soarin' Over California
            Tower of Terror; and
            Grizzly River Rapids

            My top five tips:

            1. Get to the park early! 30-40 minutes before opening.
            2. Take an afternoon break with shows, a nap, the pool, if you can;
            3. Use fastpass whenever possible (always have a fastpass ticket in your pocket);
            4. Use RideMax, or the plans in the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland; and
            5. Have fun! Take in the atmosphere at your own pace.

                Thanks. I always think, "How can I explain things to my jury, if I can't make even MiceChatters understand me?"

                  I find it so strange that the least busiest times at Disneyland are the days in-between DL's most popular holidays.

                    Actually I read it at Aladdincentral.org who reported it was closing due to to an Aladdin show being made for Broadway.

                      Okay, ... thanks.

                      My point was just that it's in the "unconfirmed" category at the moment. The fact that posts here confirm that they are casting for shows beyond September 10th lead me to believe that it's not going away, but Disney could cancel the show at any time, even with a full cast set in place. They just haven't announced anything officially.

                        Ok. Thought of another question.

                        What is the weather like? How should I pack?

                              The first thing to remember is that this is the ORIGINAL PARK. Don't get tripped up in the small size and proximity to McDonald's and Denny's on Harbor Blvd.
                              My favorite thing to do first in the winter is to get a coffee and overpriced (but delicious) baked good from the bakery half-way down the left side of Main St.
                              As far as rides go...
                              POTC is much better than WDW
                              You gotta do the Matterhorn
                              Splash is great
                              And of course...Indy

                              Make sure you see the Christmas Parade. It is special.

                              Also, try to hit the character meal at Goofy's Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel.
