  • Disneyland Hotel Pre Downtown Disney

Does anyone have any pictures of the Disneyland hotel before they tore down the old structures to make way for DTD? Preferably from the 90s, or even demolition/construction pics. Thanks!

Thanks! So correct me if I'm wrong. The Sierra tower was the original tower?

There is a member here (from Fremont, CA) that has a great book about the DL Hotels. Sorry to both you and him that I don't recall his username (I have it saved at home, but not here).

          I'm sure he'll chime in...

That is partly correct. Actually, the North side of the Sierra Tower was the first tower and was called the Tower Annex Building. In 1965/66, they added the other half to the building. The Sierra Tower is actually two separately built structures joined together.

The Sierra Tower is also the oldest remaining structure at the Disneyland Hotel. The entire original section was demolished and removed in 1999. They couldn't even save one building for history's sake

Wow. Thanks for the info I was interested at the pictures I looked at to notice that the monorail never moved in the upgrade...only the hotel property kind of moved back.

The Monorail station can give you perspective as to where the old, removed section of the Disneyland Hotel was. I remember calculating just where the Olympic size pool was and thought about all the fun I had in that pool. I also figured out where the Monorail cafe was.....too many memories and fun times there as well. When cruising out of the station on the Monorail, I used to look out at the Garden Structures on the Hotel grounds which were a favorite stay of ours when visiting Disneyland. Now I see a parking lot.
