  • Why Doesn't Disney Sell Show/Fireworks/etc Videos ?

I was talking with some friends and started to wonder about why doesn't Disney sell show videos for things like Remember Fireworks, Illuminations, Fantasmic, etc ?

Or a DVD of Candlelight and other Christmas stuff ?

It's not like many people are going to say 'gee I watched the video of Illuminations so I won't go to see it'

If anything, seeing the video would make people more likely to want to go see the shows for real.

It's not like there aren't guest videos of these shows all over Youtube, so why doesn't Disney get some of the market for themselves ?

I've wondered that myself for quite a few years.

I heard (probably a rumor) that they were going to market a DVD of the 50th festivities including the fireworks. That would be awesome.

I'd pretty much buy whatever they produce, with the exception of the (very) short lived "Light Tragic...I mean Magic".

Seeing that first hand was enough for me...

It seems as though commemorative videos of entertainment aren't created until after it's kicked the can. I can think of the Main Street Electrical Parade and the Lion King Celebration off the top of my head as entertainment which have been featured on VHS, but not until the end of their run.

I don't know about all the shows but I think that Fantasmic has/had a video out. I am pretty sure I saw it for sale in the park and DLH in the early 00s

Perhaps the idea that they'd appear unimpressive in/on a small format and create the impression that they'd be underwhelming in person thus diluting the draw of the in-person experience.

Production costs vs actual sales equal slim profit margin, at least not enough to make it a worth while venture. I know this has been discussed in great detail in TDA, but has nver got the green light.

Also, in terms of the Fireworks, they wouldn;t be able to do the entire show because there are rights issues with some of the music, such as the Star Wars stuff. Deals would have to be worked out and it would probably get rather complicated. There is so much more involved than just sending a crew out to shoot it and putting the dvd in a box. The process from start to finish could take more than a year.

If they made them park exclusives, there would certainly be a market for them.

However, I wonder - would taking the magic 'home' someone ruin the special nature of seeing it in the park? For me, it could go either way, as it is usually years between visits. Not sure how the regulars would feel.

While it would be nice to have a park created DVD of shows, I have found that outside sources create just as good ones and usually more cheaper. Try the following sites for Dvd's of shows http://www.laughingplacestore.com/Ca...RC-149-P-1.asp

Since I am a mere 350 miles away from the hub, I went and purchased the DVDs that RU42 sold on Ebay. I started with the 50th. I was really impressed with the quality. After about three months, I had all his disneyland DVDs. I totally recommend his Disneyland collection.

I would love to see the old fireworks show again -- I think it was called "Fantasy in the Sky" for those who prefer that their fireworks shows have titles. I sure miss the old show which, IMHO, was the best of them all, especially directly following the Electric Parade!

for the 50th i purchased what i thought was a DVD of the fireworks and the Parade Of Dreams , because that is what was advertised on the DVD case. It turns out i spent $20 on the "plan your disney vacation" DVD that they send out free with a vacation planning kit.

I wish they would sell DVD's of extinct rides! I know we have some up on YouTube but I'd love to see Disney Quality DVD's of the old stuff.

I have a several of the extinct attraction club DVD's and some are done very well with excellent interviews with the people who created the attractions. There are some, however, that they have that aren't worth watching. The newer ones that they are producing seem to be done with a lot more professionalism.

The Haunted Mansion, Monorail, and Carousel of Progress DVD's are all awesome.
