  • If they Demo the Disneyland Hotel..

And Paradise Pier for bigger better hotels, how are they gonna do it? Their is so much stuff within such close proximity that I just cant see them doing any explosive demolition on it. They are going to make new hotels aren't they?

I'll leave the "how" to the professionals, but...

They could turn it into an event and sell tickets.

Maybe even offer an AP discount.

I'm sure that they'd sell out. Folks have purchased tix for worse things...

Re: If they Demo the Disneyland Hotel..

Did you see how they demolished the old hotel that was nearby? It was a near clone of the Disneyland towers, it went down in an implosive demo.

I do take your point that there's a lot of stuff in close proximity. I guess they'd just have to evacuate areas for the interim.

The bigger point is, with the constant forward reservations that they take what would they do with all the lost business while they're being built? Or would they just build on the carparks while the old ones are still being used?
      Disney FAQ#275: What is DCA?
DCA stands for Disney Construction Area. All the Cast Members are themed with hard hats and steel toed boots.

I can see the demo thread now:

"Disneyland Hotel/Paradise Pier Hotel Demolition or Light Magic? Vote for What You Think Is the Real Disaster Zone Mice Chatters!"

The only way they could do it is to do each hotel tower to minimize the loss of occupancy or do each hotel seperately. The other alternative is to build the rumored 4th hotel before demolishing. It really depends on the configuration of the new hotels vs the old and how they can build up as they tear down.

I hope if they demo it, that when it is rebuilt it looks like this.

          Aww yeah! 1979 Disneyland Hotel!

I would like a mix of the 1979 Hotel and the 2007 Hotel. Blow the whole thing up like the Paul-Pressler induced nightmare it has become and bring back its understated Disney charm. The last thing we need is Mickey heads everywhere and magic wands and pixie dust. I was hoping the new hotel would be like the Disney Cruise Line, extremely elegant yet unmistakably Disney.

Personally, I have every faith in Disney's current architectural skills. When it comes to building and landscape design, it never ceases to amaze me what the current Disney does. As long as you don't ask them to design a new attraction (in which case you would get a rehashed Pixar ride), their creativity is seemingly boundless. Tomorrowland's new designs are really beautiful and futuristic now and the placemaking in DCA is fabulous.

I say knock down the empty shell that Pressler left in his wake and restore the Disneyland Hotel to its former glory. And hopefully take a portion of Downtown Disney with it so it can reclaim those parts for the Hotel's grounds. As far as I'm concerned, that western part of Downtown Disney still belongs to the Hotel, period.

As long as whatever goes up doesn't look like those but-ugly hotels at WDW.....Pop Culter and the Sports themed one, etc......have not been there but from what I've seen of the pictures....I'd gladly stay off site to avoid it.

Oooh....does this mean we get the omlympic sized swimming pool and travel port back?

I'd like to see something that evokes the nostaliga of the orginal 1950's version of the hotel, combined with the 1980's Marina version.

The primary reason for demolishing the DL Hotel is because those buildings are not seismically retrofitted. The DL Hotel really is a good hotel and I am sad to see it go, but it has to be done.

I don't know how they will do it but sadly it does have to go.

I know that the Bonita Tower was built in the 1970's, well into the time when seismic codes were close to what they are today especially in California. Do you have a source on that?

Hey, that looks very much like the room I stayed in around 1990 or so. Corner room, with a Murphy Bed.

Is demolishing these hotels actually being considered?

Re: If they Demo the Disneyland Hotel..

They can drop a building without it spreading debris outside of the buildings footprint.

I hope they do demo and rebuild the two hotels. Maybe they can make it one large inclusive resort hotel, and make it an extension of Downtown Disney.

I do love the hotels, but they could both use some serious updating.
