  • Retro Disneyland?

Ok here is just a selfish thought. I wish instead of DCA they would have made a retro Disneyland with all the old attractions, shows, and characters.
I know the aurgument can be made no one would go, the rides would not draw in the crowds, the cost of operation would not be worth it, and so forth but hey I told you it was a selfish thought. It would be cool to park hop and compare the two parks IMO. would it do worse than DCA? Maybe but a guy can dream can't he?

Are you kidding? That would do way better then DCA. I would not be surprised if it did just as well as Disneyland if it had the same amount of attractions. If it would have ATIS and stuff like that hell ya I would go.

While I miss many of the old attractions, most I enjoy remembering them in all their glory without their blemishes.

If everyone just wanted "old" attractions, we wouldn't have people "whining" about the "new" Space Mountain.

Do we realy want the Viewliner? Midget Autopia? There are many on this forum who now drive who would rather see the current Autopia blasted out of the park. How about the Flying Saucers? I know these were cool, but like RocketRods were constantly not working. Should the Opera house be a mill shop and lumber yard?

Most of the old attractions were pulled out because of just that- they were old. They were dated.

A lot of the old attractions now gone were replaced with stuff that is even better save for a couple (Winnie the Pooh/Country Bears, Innoventions/Carousel of Progress).

True but for me a major part of the fun in ATIS was that is was dated. It truely took me back. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a new attraction hater I just want it all

I don't know about a retro park, but a retro diner/restraunt would be cool to see in the park. You could dine in an old people mover, look at old posters from Captain EO. Old costumes and AA can be on display in glass cases. Now that would be cool!

                      Re: Retro Disneyland?

I'd pay money to go to Retro Disneyland, or as I would call it, Disneyland Classic. My idea for the park would be a combination of gone but not forgotten attractions (ATIS, Country Bear Jamboree, PeopleMover, Mission to Mars, ect.), the original 1964-65 World's Fair versions of it's a small world, Carrousel of Progress, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and (possibly) Magic Skyway, and maybe even have an area dedicated to attractions that never made it off the drawing board (Western River Expedition, anyone?)

                        Re: Retro Disneyland?

I have for a very long time had the idea that the Disneyland Hotel should go totally retro and become a Disneyland museum of sorts. No one seems to know what to do with the place.

Some mid-century modern furnishings and other stylish show elements along with defunct Attraction vehicles and other historic artifacts could come to life there in a really imaginative way and, in so doing, preserve culturally-important parts of Disneyland that may now be outdated.

A retro Disneyland is an awesome idea! No shame there! I would love to ride People Mover and Captain EO again! :yea:

                            Re: Retro Disneyland?

My mom actually had the same idea. "Why can't they use DCA for all the attractions that DL closed that were so magical, like Inner Space?"
Problem is, the reasons they closed many of the attractions that are now in Yesterland were for maintenance reasons, costliness, unpopularity, those sorts of things. Although, I would give anything to see those Country Bears again...
