  • What kind of souvenirs do you buy for loved ones?

I was talking to a buddy of mine today about Disneyland souvenirs, and which kind we bought for loved ones when visiting the Park.

He told me that he used to buy his mom a small lantern every time he visited until he was nearly 20 years old. This would have been aound 1985. I have no idea what this lantern looks like, but it doesn't really matter. The point is that he consistently purchased the same thing for his mom.

Tigerlily and I regularly make a sojourn to the Candy Palace on Main Street USA, to purchase specific types of candy for our kids. Morgan likes sour candy, Charlie and Katie like the Mickey suckers, Michele like jawbreakers and Megan loves all candy!

Realizing that there may be something about this that is familiar to some folks who visit Disneyland, particularly those who visit from out-of-town, I decided that there is a question here that needs to be asked.

Do you find that you consistently purchase the same kinds of gifts for loved ones when visiting the Park? If so, what do you get and why?

My mother, who grew up in the OC and frequented Disneyland as a child while the park was still a baby loves sweaters...specifically sweaters with Mickey on them... She doesn't go to the park often nowadays, and I go about once a Month.. I usually get her a new Mickey sweater once a year, but I never leave the park without something Mickey to give her--- a pin, pen, mug, etc... She loves it.

I always get giant swirly suckers. I have a few friends who love them. I also get the little mickey head suckers for my kids to give their friends.

Me, I try to get myself a new shotglass everytime I go. Oh sorry, toothpick holder.

I take requests and just pick up whatever they want (as long as they request it). Other wise I just grab a bunch of little goodies and hand them out when I get home.

This is one of my fave parts of the trip....the loot.

One of my brothers collects magnets - so he gets a new magnet every trip
            Another one collects "toothpick" holders...
My girls' friends all get some kind of Goofy's candy
The girls each have to bring home a big swirly sucker every trip. Never mind only 1/8 of it ever gets eaten. traditions are what they are!

*I* always get a little sump'in sump'in for me. Usually something from the Gallery..but now Disneyana or Off the Page...

Hubby gets a new 'aloha' shirt whenever they have one...
Just countin' the days til the next visit!

I buy a pin and my wife buys a charm for her bracelet for each trip we take down to the resort.

Keeping with tradition, we have started a collection for our 4 month old daughter, a charm from mommy and a pin from daddy. We plan on giving this to her when she is older as a birthday or Christmas gift.

I make sure to buy my mom some sort of Eeyore product each time I visit Disneyland.

I only get my mom things because she is the only one in my family who appreciates stuff I buy her that are Disney related. Plus she is an Eeyore fan.

Re: What kind of souvenirs do you buy for loved ones?

When my Grandma was still alive, I used to buy her a tiny porcelain figurine from Main Street. I got her a new one each time, starting with Snow White until she finally had all the seven dwarfs too.

In High School I'd buy my friends something cheap like a button that reflected the current Disney film in the theaters. They were just $1 so it was an easy gift.

When I was a kid, my parents would get me and my brother either a small plush toy or a die cast metal car (susie the blue coup). Now they have Disney Racers so if I had kids, I'd probably do something like that.

Postcards were also pretty fun to buy for my mom as she likes them, but now they're so unimaginative and stale because nobody sends postcards anymore.

For myself (hehe), I buy pins that have disney theme park signage or logos on them.

                        -mini disneyland attraction art.

-select plush (though i haven't done this in perhaps 7 years)

                        -Star Tours action figures.

For friends I usually get a little knick-knack, usually candy, like the little candy tins they sell with characters on them. My sister and I usually get pins. My dad is a big fan of candy, esp. Pooh's Corner candy, and my mom loves the little statuettes they sell, and really loves the crystal figurines in a shop on Main Street, I forget the name. As though are rather pricey, she enjoys just regular statuettes

                              Usually t-shirts and snow globes.

                              Cheesy I know.
