  • An Updated Soarin'? Soarin' Over America?

So, the Walt Disney Company was contracted by the United States Department of State, specifically Travel, to produce a video to showcase America to current and prospective foreign tourists.

The video, entitled Welcome: Portraits of America, is featured on the government website,

    http://travel.state.gov/vids/disney/...0/us_parks.swf

I noticed one particular scene with air balloons that is similar to the one featured in the Soarin' attraction.

The video is awesome, set to the the soundtrack of Epcot's IllumiNations, and features sweeping aerial landscapes of different parts of the United States.

Could these shots also be used in a possible future sequel of Soarin' or is it still too early for Imagineers to be thinking of that?

Watch the video and see for yourself. The video will occupy approximately seven minutes of your life that you'll never get back. Be warned.

Ok yeah about 2 parts of that video might actually make it into a Soarin' video but honestly if they were going to do an update don't u think they would go out there and shoot some really cool stuff.

And second. If GL and the Imagineerrs haven't updated Star Tours in how many years why would they do Soarin' after just a couple years. Lets concentrate our energy on Star Tours. U would think after 3 pre-quels going by and a cartoon and soon to by cgi tv show and soon to be live action tv show George (The god that he is) might take a little time and redo Star Tours. IT NEEDS LOVE!
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day at the largest human trap ever built by a mouse.

I think they need to keep it fresh, just like they were supposed to with Star tours. Please every 5 years a new soarin. PLEASE

Does anybody else get just a blank white screen when clicking on that link?

Edited to add: I got the video to play at this web site:

I suggested back for the 4th of July that they make a Soaring over America to theme it to the holiday. They come up with new I-Max movies all the time. why not those? (aside from the expense) but I think it's a good idea

Seeing as the area it is in is being redone to a more "National Park"y feel, I think it would be cool to do Soarin' as a tour of the nation's parks. Grand Canyon, Teton's, etc... Would be sweet I think.

Though I love the whole country tour idea as well.

These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. A new film may not make so much sense at Soarin' Over California, but it would probably make more sense as the film for Soarin' at EPCOT Center.

Epcot needs the update more than DCA. Having the film of California in Florida makes no sense what so ever. Especially when you fly over Disneyland at Christmas time when you are at Disney World.

Re: An Updated Soarin'? Soarin' Over America?

I think it was Jim Hill who mentioned that Tokyo Disneysea and/or Walt Disney Studios Paris may have plans for a Soarin' attraction. And since the sole California location wouldn't appeal too much to the local guests, they ALREADY filmed and canned a ridefilm. It's just a matter of when to show it... correct me if I'm wrong.

                            Flying shots from the video:

                            1) Over main street/highway through small countryside town.
                            2) Hot air balloons in countryside (already in Soarin' film)
                            3) Over seaside pier with cityscape in the evening.
                            4) Desert landscape
                            5) Sunset over clouds
                            6) Over green mountainside with overhanging clouds
                            7) Cityscape in the evening (Seattle?)
                            8) Passing over autum leaves trees
                            9) Century Park in New York
                            10) Las Vegas strip in evening
                            11) Hollywood Hills
                            12) Grand Canyon
                            13) Niagra Falls
                            14) National monuments (Washington/Mt. Rushmore)
                            15) Swampland/Everglades?
                            16) Hawaii
                            17) Rocky Mountains?
                            18) Statue of Liberty

Concerning the shots over cities, they're in real time and very smooth. Unlike Soarin's shaky time-lapse over a Los Angeles Rush Hour freeway traffic...

And hopefully we'll get transitions with clouds. Sea World's Artic helicopter ridefilm even has cloud transitions...
