  • Going to the parks without the kids

Do those of you with small kids ever travel to the resort without them? My son is almost 2 so he doesn't understand yet if we leave him with the grandparents and go to DL. But I'm curious about if people do this with slightly older kids.

I know we all love our kids with all our hearts, but sometimes it's nice to spend some adult time in the parks. Please don't take me for a cruel parent...I'm sure you guys can understand what I'm saying.

I take two trips a year without my kids. It's a totally different experience and so much fun! Go and enjoy yourself and the fact you're not pushing a stroller and carrying a diaper bag. Enjoy a nice meal together followed by a glass of wine or cocktail and relax

We have gone without the kids twice in the last year and for me its a totally different experience, you can do things without having to worry about their schedule needs (naps, snacks, etc) and you can go on anything you want. No strollers, no worries about height requirements etc. I definitely recommend trying it at least once, its a lot of fun.

My hubby however doesn't ever have a good time when we are there without our kids...he believes DL is for kids and we should not go without them, so unless its my birthday or something I rarely get to do it.

      A little piece of heaven

Okay so if you don't mind me asking, how old are your kids?

Do your kids know your going to DL? I'm afraid when my son is old enough to understand, he'd be heartbroken if we went to DL without him.

We go without the kids quite a few times a year. And they know we do.

The first time we went without them (and they were old enough to realize we were going without them) was about the ages of 5 and 7.

Before that we would go without them, but not tell them WHERE we were going as to not create drama.

Re: Going to the parks without the kids

My kids are 8 and 13 now, I took my first trip without them for DL's bday in 2003, it was the first time I met All Aglow and her youngest at the time was under a year. I took them with me the following year for DL's bday but made another trip for GayDays wknd without them. In 2005, 2006 and this year I've done two trips a year without them. The first time they were a little jealous, but souveiners appeased them. Now it's a non-issue with them.

My wife and I have never gone with out the kids. We have, however, gone with the kids AND the grandparents and have had some time to ourselves while the kids went with grandma and grandpa to Fantasyland or something.

My wife and I also agree that even when the kids are grown we will still come to DLR and enjoy ourselves. Heck we'd be happy sitting in the hub for hours with a turkey leg or a pretzel and people watching.

It feels odd to be there without the kids. Not a bad thing, just odd.

Re: Going to the parks without the kids

I am a firm believer in having some "us" time. I think that spending time alone together helps strengthen the relationship. However, there are some people that take it to far. If your alone time starts becoming larger than your "family" time, you might want to reevaluate your priorities. However, some alone time is good and I would never think you're a bad parent for wanting that, everyone needs a break, even from the kids.

So enjoy Disneyland, let me know what you did, so I have some ideas when I go in June.

Our kids are in their 20's now, but, hubby and I used to go without them sometimes. Of course, we'd rather have them with us, but, sometimes we'd travel on hubby's business and we'd visit the park without the kids and it was fun too! Now, we go mostly alone because getting them to go with us, and 4 adults getting time off work at the same time, is sort of hard to do! (And, we don't live in So. Cal.)

I have been a lot without my kids. I used to spend my non-kid time at DL quite often. The kids got used it after a while. We took them to DL enough that they understood when I would go on my own.

I have even been to WDW without them 3 times. I know I can't do that again without them.
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

That happened with us at WDW when we went for Gay Days this year.

Disneyland, not so much an issue because we go so often. But prior to that we only had 1 trip to WDW, so it felt kind of weird being there without them.

We had a great time, no question, but it was odd.

But now that the kids have been twice, I'm thinking another trip to WDW without them may not be such a bad thing.

Mr Clinks, my husband felt weird about not having the kids there. They were really upset with us for not taking them this time, which is something I didn't experience with the last 2 trips.

We are trying to figure out getting the kids there next year.
