  • OK TDA, it's time to send someone out to clean Space Mountain!

Space Mountain has not been cleaned within the past year, obviously. Will someone out there in park maintenance PLEASE send someone out to clean the sides of the mountain?

I don't know if it is dirt or dust or bird poop or the brown paint peeling through the white, but Space Mountain looks awful. There are plenty of pictures here on the boards that show the disgusting mess on the outside of the structure. The rain didn't get rid of it, I think it only made it worse.

Please, for the sake of show.

Well, in all fairness, it looked great last summer, so it's probably been less than a year. I was just looking at a photo of it from last...July, I think? Spotless. Quite nice.

But yes...time for a nice new paint job for Space Mountain.

I think it needs paint, not a wash, so that will have to wait for good, predictable, weather.

The mountain was cleaned continually right after it opened on July 15th, 2005 (wow that long ago) and throughout the 50th celebration. After the 50th came to a close, they stopped cleaning the mountain regularly. It was usually easy to spot them doing it. The workers were attached by large ropes and scaled up and down with what look liked hoses. And when the mountain was washed off, the sun would glare off the white paint as if it had just been freshly painted.

                Some alternative solutions:

Offer vertically-oriented blinders to easily offended guests when entering the gates.

Hand out official Mickey Toothbrushes to cleanliness freaks and offer to let them be a part of the "Cleanup Crew for a Day". Custodial really doesn't get enough love ...

Require complainers to put a quarter into a trash can every time they make a comment and use the money collected in a public fund to "Spruce Up Space Mountain".

Hey I'm all for the quarter fund if it keeps the ride and it's white exterior cleaned.

Just put birdseed all over it. Seagull poop works better than rustoleum.

The exterior of Space Mountain is covered in a sort of vinyl plastic tarp (the brown 1998 paint scheme is still underneath that tarp) so it's not an issue of paint.

When it rains, all of the dirt, dust, and car exhaust from Southern California gets pulled out of the air and ends up on the sides of Space Mountain. Technically our rainy season here in Southern California lasts until March, so there is little reason in spending a lot of money to clean the outside, when there's still a chance that we might see some significant rainfall.

Most likely they will wash it again in April or May as they did last year - after the rainy season.

Really? I was not aware of that. Might I ask your source on this? It certainly looks like a regular old solid surface. Hmm! Interesting.

Unfortunately, the seagulls of Disneyland prefer churros.

I watched them put it on.

Check for some pictures back in 2005 when they re-did it. I have to say that I was pretty skeptical, but aside form some areas that have since bunched up, the whole thing looks alright.

Seems like this would be a great opportunity for a company that makes stain or dirt resistant coatings to get their product noticed. Rain-X works great for keeping water off windshields, there must be something to help repel dust and grime or at least make it rinse off easier.

That, or Disney could rename it Moon Mt. and paint it grey.
