  • Question About "The Disneyland Story"

I'll be visiting Disneyland for the first time in over ten years. I've never seen "The Disneyland Story" (on Main Street). Is it worthwhile? Is it interesting or fun or educational? Or is it merely a promotional film for Disney? Thanks!

My family thinks it's great - it's only a few minutes long - take the time to see it. Steve Martin is so fun.

I enjoyed it and it's worth a view if you've never seen it.

I personally love it... As someone who loves the history side of the park... Such a great movie... Plus its great in the middle of the summer to just sit in the pre-show looking at all the different things and escaping the heat...

Not something I can watch over and over, but if you have never seen it then it is worth watching because it has a lot of history in it. I especially love the lobby, there is a lot of concept art and history in the lobby. I used to love just being in there when it wasn't crowded.

Get there early and look around the lobby for a while. If you are a Disney fan, you will like it for sure.

The lobby had some interesting stuff and is worth a look. However - I seem to be in the minority on this - but I positively loathed the film. The idea is that Donald Duck is trying to oust Steve Martin as host, and spends most of the film trying to bump him off in a rather Looney Tunes Daffy-vs.-Bugs style. I like the idea of having humor in the film, but this routine had nothing to do with the subject. It seemed to me like the filmmakers were worried that the people who came to see the film would be disinterested in Disneyland history and would need something to distract them.

Re: Question About "The Disneyland Story"

It has a LOT of great footage. If you're familiar with Disneyland history at all, and have spent 2 minutes on the Yesterland site, then the information won't be anything new, but it's still nice to see all the video they have.

The exhibits in the waiting area are great. We go in there just to look at those and don't watch the film sometimes! I'll skip the first showing after I come in and go to the second one to give myself more time to look around the lobby.

Re: Question About "The Disneyland Story"

I just watched it again recently and noticed that in the beginning of the film, when Steve Martin is on Main Street talking, performing magic, etc, that the Disneyland patrons in the background walk from one side of the screen to the other. Instead of walking off the screen, like they were actually walking down Main Street, they turn around and walk back to the other side of the screen.

OK, OK, a dumb thing to notice but I found it funny to see the same background people walking back and forth in front of the camera while Steve M does his thing.
