  • Radiator Springs Racers Description

Well take a look at this official description of what the new land opening in 2012 will be:

"Carsland nestled in the heart of Ornament Valley, Carsland will be home to the characters from Disney-Pixar's smash hit 'Cars' spanning 12 acres this brand new land will transport guest to the heart of Radiator Springs, where they will experience ground breaking attractions, a dine-in restaurant and free wheeling fun for the whole family.

Radiator Springs Racers a speedy 'E-Ticket' attraction will place guest right in the middle of the amazing detailed world of Mater, Lightning McQueen, Doc and Sally. After a quick race briefing from Doc and Lightning, passengers will suddenly find themselves in the midst of an exciting race through shadowy woodlands, canyons and valleys, waterfalls and tunnels, complete with hairpin turns, steep banks and a heart-pounding dash for the finish line.
When I first read this description, I thought "sounds pretty good, it's much better than Test Track's ride through a warehouse." Than I started to think more about it. Those who have riden Test Track, know that it is basically riding in a car. The settings of RSR will be much better than a warehouse, but in a few hours from LA, you can go and drive through all the "shadowy woodlands, canyons and valleys, waterfalls and tunnels" that you want to. Sure you can't race, but it would be a similar enough experience. Basically, what I am getting down to is that the experience RSR will offer is not extraordinary enough. I go to Disneyland to do things that are far from ordinary. I go to Disneyland to sail with Pirates, visit the Temple of the Forbiden Eye, visit a Haunted Mansion, rocket through space, ride a cursed mine train; you know things I can't even come close to doing in real life.

Disney should focus on the extraordinary, not the ordinary. Talking cars are not enough to make driving in a car extraordinary IMO. I am sure RSR will be fun, but why spend 300 million on it, when you could spend 300 million on something else much more extraordinary like say TDS's Journey to the Center of the Earth?

    Hmmm
But this is not Disneyland! I just had to say it!

Yeah, but it is still the 2nd gate of the Disneyland resort, and it still has to live up to Disneyland's standards IMO.

GRR is a trip down the white water rapids. That is something anyone could conceivably do. Soarin is a flight over CA. That is something anyone could conceivably do. Screamin is a ride on a classic rollercoaster. That is something anyone could conceivably do.

Those rides work for me. Different park, different premise.

I just think that just because it's DCA we will always find a flaw to every ride or show they add. If we just think positive and think about how good DCA is going to be than what we had then we will forget about everything and enjoy the new DCA.

I'm reserving judgment till I've ridden it, and honestly, my hopes are pretty high right now. Yes, you could conceivably go visit these environments, but you couldn't go racing through them at high speeds and get a huge rush while not putting yourself at any real risk. I appreciate your way of thinking, but if the ride is well-done enough, I think it'll be fine.

I think its about the Cars aspect more than it is about the scenery and stuff. Idk it sounds pretty cool to me.

I agree with Data and Pat above. It sounds like it will be fun if it's done well, and at least the budget sounds like it should be very highly themed, so that's a good start.
The Mickey audience is not made up of people; it has no racial, national, political, religious or social differences or affiliations; the Mickey audience is made up of parts of people, of that deathless, precious, ageless, absolutely primitive remnant of something in every world-wracked human being which makes us play with children’s toys and laugh without self-consciousness at silly things, and sing in bathtubs, and dream and believe that our babies are uniquely beautiful. You know…the Mickey in us.

I think we'll all need to just wait and see how much better the new ride technology will be for this... if it does in fact improve upon it. To me it sounds pretty cool so far. I think it will need to rely on a fun experience paired with great visuals to make something incredible.

Test Track's finale of speeding on a track backstage just didn't do anything for me. Layout, design, and story elements so far sound like it will really enhance this experience by a ton.

I have been waiting for a ride like this for a long time. It seems strange but makes sense. An attraction is supposed to thrill you with surprises and danger, but you know you are safe. In a car traveling it is all to real and boring, but when things get thrown out at you in the attraction and has a good story it gets more exciting imo.

I love how everyone (including myself) judges books by there covers. The ride hasn't even been made or even close to being made yet. We still have 4 years to go!
