  • Healthy Dining in and around Disneyland

    Hello all
I'm going to be travelling to Disneyland in October and some of my family has decided to make the journey as well. It so happens some of them are a bit of a stickler for healthy food, so I was wondering what likeminded individuals do when they're surrounded by fast food in and around disneyland. What are the healthy alternatives? We'll be staying at the HOJO and we won't be renting a car, so it has to be accessible by foot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Define "healthy". Are you vegan/vegetarian?

Nope, just trying to eat healthy - ie less fat, sodium, etc. more fibre, fruits and veggies, etc.

Sodium might be difficult. Under normal circumstances I try to eat less than 1500 mg a day and buy everything low sodium, but on vacation it's really difficult to track. Beans, sauce, tortillas, etc...are all chocked full of sodium even if they "healthy" otherwise.

DLR has lots of fruit/vegetable carts scattered here and there. I was able to eat vegan without ever leaving the park, so I think you should be fine.

        A few options:
        DL
        - Pasta with marinara sauce or salad at Redd Rockett's
        - Sandwiches (not the Monte Cristo!) or ratatouille at Cafe Orleans
        - Vegetable gumbo at Royal Street Veranda
        - Vege kabobs at Bengal Barbecue

        DCA
        - Vegetarian chili at Pacific Wharf
        - Vegetarian tacos at Cocina Cucomonga
        - Pasta options at Wine Country Trattoria

Let me know if you have anymore questions. Chefs are always happy to accommodate dietary requests and CMs at quick service areas have guides with nutritional info listed.

Just make sure you stay away from burgers, chicken strips, and turkey legs...

          Good morning, son
          In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
          It was pain
          Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Since you are staying at Hojos, you will probably want to eat at Mimi's Cafe. Check out the "Fresh and Fit" menu and "just enough" small portions. Nutrition info is available in a booklet at the table.

I use healthy eating (along with exercise) to control cholesterol. So I avoid red meat and many other foods that are high in saturated fat. There are reasonably healthy alternatives at some Disney eateries. Ask for substitutions. The Carnation Cafe offered me fruit in place of the meat on their breakfast items, for example.
