Thanks Werner! You mentioned how expensive a vacation at Aulani can be, so I wanted to share my experience booking 3 nights plus airfare from Los Angeles and how I saved some money. I first booked an Oceanview room for October 14-17 through Disney. The room charge totaled $1877 ($549/night plus tax). R/T airfare from Los Angeles for two was $1064 for a grand total of $2941. However, while shopping airfare on my airline's website, a package for Aulani showed up with airfare and 3 nights Oceanview for $2306, a savings of $635. The moral of the story is always look into packaging airfare and hotel stays. The savings varied widely between travel sites, so shop around.

Lovely place. Now for the really important question. Do they have Dole Whip?

Excellent question! Let me look into it.

If they don't have Dole Whips at Aulani, you can get them at the Dole Plantation located between Aulani and the North Shore.

I happened to be across the street at Roy's last night and a group of 6 of us walked across the street for a drink. Mai Tai's were 11.50 each. There was definitely some first public night confusion and service speed issues, but all in all not bad. Disney is definitely played down a lot. I only saw references to the mouse in the gift shop and the closest thing i saw to a hidden mickey is in the corners of the room door signs. I need to go back sometime during the day to really check it out.

I wonder how someone like me, with a DVC home resort of VGC can book 7 months out in June. 11 months in advance for the Grand Californian is one thing, but 7 months out for a DVC resort in Hawaii might be another.

I think 7 months will be doable, but not necessarily all times of the year or for all sizes of accommodations.

I booked the Villas at Grand Californian at 7 months for a stay in a 1-bedroom during the 2010 California Food & Wine Festival. I had no problem getting what I wanted. One of these days, I'll try to book Aulani at 7 months, and I hope I'll be equally successful.

People who own at Aulani will not all return there every year. Some years, they will use their points in California or Florida. So that inventory will be available at 7 months.

I agree. It's a very long flight for many and the flights are a large expenditure that many DVCers don't usually have to pony up/
