  • 1959 Submarine Voyage Ride Thru

This is a clip from the live ABC-TV special Kodak Presents Disneyland '59, broadcast June 14, 1959, which showcased the grand opening of the Monorail, Matterhorn, and Submarine Voyage. Looks great for a kinescope!

That is a nice clip. Thanks for sharing
The new Star Wars plot summery:

Episode 7: Luke discovers that Darth Vader is not his father, and goes on a search for his real father

Episode 8: Darth Vader is resurrected and goes on Jerry Springer, claiming he is Luke and Leia's father

Episode 9: Princes Leia is not Luke's sister, making him furious (we all know why...).

Very interesting video! Too bad it's not like this anymore even though I still enjoy Nemo.

Very cool! I only got to ride the original version of the ride once in the early 90's so this was great to see. Comparing this to the Nemo version's dialog and scenes, I picked up on a few references to the old version I had forgot about. Nice!

I loved how they included shots of real fish. A bit of oversell there, if you ask me.

You mean to tell me that you don't remember the fish & especially the sharks swimming around in the lagoon? Gee, I'm sure I saw them, even if I was only 5 years old in '59. Of course they had 'disappeared' by the time I was 'older'.

But seriously, it sure was wonderful how "real" it all was to me!

I first rode this ride in 1991, at night, where it takes on a more dark and spooky quality. But I was so amazed by it, it really was one of the more memorable rides. It's too bad everything has to have a movie or product tie-in these days.

What I like about this is the sense of adventure, NEMO is too much of a forced story without the imagination of the original subs.

Thanks for posting this. I was explaining to my 9 year old son about the old subs and as I described what the ride was like, he was a bit disappointed that he couldn't experience it for himself. I can't wait to show him this! This is one of the few rides that I have distinct memories of riding as a child. Watching it brought back wonderful feelings and warm fuzzies

                          Agreed.

And you're right....riding it at night added a very cool dimension to it.

It looked like they had live sharks in the show building.
