Anyone remember Tinkerbell riding down from the Matterhorn?

    Newbie here......
Does anyone remember Tinkerbell riding down on a wire from the top of the Matterhorn? It was about 1960 that I remember. I think Tinkerbell was not a person, but a doll, I'm not sure. Anyone remember that -- it would have been at night.

It was a real person--a she still does it. It the 60s (for a time) it was also Mary Poppins. My step-father used to catch her every night on the other side. I love Tinker Bell flying from the matterhorn-- its one of those magical moments for me.

Tinker Bell began her flights over the Disneyland castle in 1961. It's always been a real person up there. The first Tink was a former circus performer in her 70s named Tiny Kline. How many 70-year-olds to you know who would be willing to careen 146 feet in the air on a wire? To make it even more exciting, the only way to stop her at the end was for her to crash into a mattress!

Kline retired in 1964 due to health problems and was replaced by Judy Kaye who was Tinker Bell for another decade. Today, various cast members play Tink.

Thanks everyone for the info. I did not know the Tink rider was a real person. I was young then. If I get the opportunity to go to Disneyland again (instead of DW), which I think now I'm just going to have to do, watching this will be the highlight of the trip!

A giant head? That is just wrong.

Yes, and the whole costume lights up! I've been wondering if they use male cast members as well as females now. I once had a friend who was a CM in costume who usually played Mrs. Incredible, and he said that for masked female characters, they like to use slender guys instead of actual girls, but I can't remember the reason.

It doesnt make sense to me to have a mask for a character who is far from sight anyways.

Re: Anyone remember Tinkerbell riding down from the Matterhorn?

Hello. In March or April of this year posted a video of the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks that I shot on July 17th 2005. About 5 minutes in you can see what they have done with Tinkerbell and how she flies.

                        Here is the link, http://stage6.divx.com/Disneyland/vi...e-July-17-2005

In order to view it properly you need a high speed internet connection, a fairly recent web browser and you must accept the divx web plugin, which will install automatically. If your PC will let you view the video, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Mary Poppins was not a real person. Just a dummy. She went up instead of down, before Tinkerbell descended.

Well that explains it all. Tink looks like "she" gained a few pounds as well.

Tink in flight is too close to the pyro for her to go without a head. At WDW the fireworks are far enough away for Tink to be a face character.
