I do too. I've never made it there on any of my trips to Hong Kong, but I'd like to go just to see what it is like.

Polar Adventure to open in 2011/2012.

There is a new nighttime show "Symbio" coming to HKOP. The show to open around 2010/2011.

            Ocean Park: “Symbio”
Concept/Creative Direction. As a cornerstone of their grand expansion, Hong Kong’s Ocean Park commissioned The Bezark Company to develop its signature nighttime spectacular. In massive projections, lasers, fountains and fireworks, “Symbio” tells the story of two worlds, land and sea; and how the citizens of these two worlds can learn how much they need each other.
            source: Bezark

HKOP is hiring the same contractor (who did the fountain and pop-up sprinkler system at HKDL) to do the pop-up sprinkler, drip system for the new Entry Plaza, Aqua City and Grand Aquarium.

regarding Toy Story Land @ HKDL, not sure when it is going to open. but according to local newspapers, either Mystic Point or Grizzly Trail might open first.

Re: Can HKDL compete with HKOP after their expansion?

I love Ocean Park! On my second trip to Hong Kong, I visited both Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park. I was blown away by the difference. The newer attractions at Ocean Park are pretty well done, but not at a Disney level. But what they do have that Disney doesn't is LOTS to do.

Hong Kong Disneyland is pretty, but totally underwhelms in things to do.

Disney opened this park thinking that the Chinese would be thrilled to overpay for the opportunity to have their photos taken with Mulan, and didn't care about rides. Boy were they wrong . . . AGAIN!

They keep under-building their new parks and then have to play catch-up to fix the parks. Hong Kong Disneyland is a near disaster of a park. They've simply got to create more attractions and fast!

Ocean Park is making Disney look really stupid, like they didn't do any research before they opened HKDL.

I know that some don't like to hear negative things about Disney. But this is true. Disney under-built this park and is suffering because of it. They are getting a bad reputation in Hong Kong and the repeat business is all going to Ocean Park.

My guess is that either Grizzly Trail or Toy Story Land opens first. To get to Mystic Point one has to go through either Grizzly or Toy Story areas so I doubt it would be built first. Toy Story Land would be easiest to build quickly because it is not as elaborate as the other two lands and moreover is a clone of a land which will have been built by then (at WDS Paris).

Is that a bobsled, a roller coaster or a SeaWorld Atlantis style combination wet ride/roller coaster?

According to earlier tourism document/paper released by HK Gov (back in 2005), the featured attraction would be "bobsled roller coasters", but it is still subject to change.

                    ---------------

It's mentioned in various discussion boards in HK that the design of "Polar Adventure" has been changed, the "bobsled" has been cancelled and/or being merged/replaced by a HyperCoaster with Arctic Theme from another attraction.

                        ------------

MTR Disneyland Resort Line for HKDL

and now there is a new MTR Line for HKOP!

A New MTR South Island Line to be completed by 2015

South Island Line rail scheme gazetted

The railway scheme for the South Island Line (East) was gazetted today, the Transport & Housing Bureau says.

The proposed line will be a 7km-long medium-capacity railway, providing passenger service between Admiralty and South Horizons with three intermediate stations - near Ocean Park, at Wong Chuk Hang and Lei Tung Estate. The railway will run in tunnels and viaducts according to topography.

When complete, it will take about nine minutes to travel from South Horizons to Admiralty, as compared with 25 to 45 minutes by using road-based transport during rush hour.

Subject to the Chief Executive in Council's authorisation, the construction works are expected to begin in 2011 and be completed by 2015.

Under the Railways Ordinance, members of the public have the right to lodge objections to the railway scheme from now until September 22, and they can claim compensation under the provisions of the Ordinance.

The MTR South Island Line with a station at Ocean Park will definitely bring in more visitors to the Park.

Thanks for the Ocean Express pictures, that looks like an awesome train. I want to go to Hong Kong after Mystic Manor and Big Grizzly Mountain open, I will be sure to stop by Ocean Park also.

BTW, there was a cool commercial.
