Tom Staggs is in Hong Kong (probably on the way to Tokyo for the D23 Expo) to formally announce the Iron Man ride. It will include a shop and an indoor meet and greet area. It will open at the end of 2016. Less than a year after SHDL opening.

More details coming from hket news

      nytimes :

An Iron Man-themed thrill ride, photo pavilion and shopping area will open at Hong Kong Disneyland in late 2016, said Thomas O. Staggs, Disney’s theme park chairman. The Iron Man Experience, which analysts say will cost at least $100 million, will be Disney’s first ride based on Marvel. Disney bought the comic book company for about $4 billion in 2009.

An exclusive Iron Man offering could greatly increase Hong Kong Disneyland’s momentum. “Iron Man 3” took in $121.2 million in China this year. The related “Avengers” movie took in $84.1 million.

“It’s important for us to have a story for our Hong Kong guests, a little bit of bragging rights that they have something that nobody else has,” said Bill Ernest, the president of Disney’s theme parks in Asia.
Disney gave few details about the planned Iron Man ride, saying only that it will allow guests to take flight with the superhero as he fights alien invaders across the streets and skyline of Hong Kong — a tease that will surely make Marvel’s rabid fan base salivate. Even without specifics, the announcement will also help to end what has long been Hong Kong Disneyland’s biggest question: Is it big enough?

Good for Disney to build up HK Disneyland. This will go great along with Mystic Manor and Grizzly Mountain

            Walt Disney World - 1996, 2011
            Tokyo Disney Resort - 2013

That ride vehicle in the poster clearly is a Star Tours vehicle rethemed.

If Iron Man was battling in HK as they said it was, then how come Stark Tower is here?

I think they maybe using the cartoon version of Iron Man rather than the film version. I guess Robert Downey Jr is just too expensive for them.

It's basically HKDL's Star Tours. That puts the nail on the coffin for Star Tours 2.0 ever coming to that park, which means any Star Wars land/expansion won't be in Tomorrowland.

They can always put Star Wars Land in HKDL's future second gate.

That, or they may use the actress from the Chinese version of Iron Man 3. I agree, RDjr would be expensive for a ride only coming to HKDL. It'll probably just be Iron Man with the mask on the entire time.

                      Kinda personally disappointing for me.

I mean, I've loved simulator rides, in the 90s. And I believe Star Tours works well because of the story and the universe that it inhabits.

But still, good news I guess?

They have quite a lot to worry about. This most likely/will out do anything Universal did with Marvel, and it will also be a big draw for fans (both Marvel and Disney) around the world. It isn't a simple Star Tour re-skin (when is anything Disney related simple) but a new ride with similar ride tech to it (just cause it uses similar tech, doesn't mean it's a reskin (look at RSR and Test Track or Indiana Jones Adventure and Dinosaur))
Met Anna and Elsa over 1100 times and not afraid to admit it. Just let it go

Spiderman is one of the best rides in the world (Universal and otherwise). I would be surprised if a confined capsule such as the Star Speeder simulator will be able to provide a better experience than that of Spiderman.

Not to say that they can't, but I just don't see a reason to get excited over Disney using a system from the 80s while Universal is using first of their kind ride systems. (Even Transformers is based on a system from '99, a 12 years after Star Tours came out).

I'm sure it will be a solid addition but I'm just not as excited as I was for Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point or even some of Universal's recent additions.
