  • Hong Kong Mega Bridge Helps HKDL by linking up Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai

News update (Hot from the press)

All 3 parties, Hong Kong SAR Government, GuangDong Province (including City of Zhuhai) and Macau SAR have all agreed on the financing arrangement of the Hong Kong Mega Bridge(aka Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Mega Bridge). Hong Kong SAR: 50.2%, GuangDong Province: 35.1%, Macau SAR: 14.7%. It is expected that they will put construction of the mega bridge on tender within this year. This is a gigantic project, the estimated cost above HK$50 billion, construction will include 2 man-made islands, underwater tunnel and a bridge super structure spanning across the pearl river.

By linking up Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai, it is making this part of the Pearl River Delta region the most attractive for tourists. It will only take approx 15 mins from one end of the bridge to another end, that is,speeding up the transportation time between Hong Kong and Macau (and also Zhuhai).

This is definitely an advantage for HKDL, since Macau is transforming into Asia's Las Vegas.

HKDL, just a question to clarify...

is it considered a advantageous for HKDL because the path that the bridge will take will
be along the current highway from Kowloon to the HK airport (which HKDL is a slight
      detour)?

Thanks for all your HKDL news!

not familiar with the area, could someone link an aerial and maybe mark it where the bridge and the resort are.

        It sounds quite interesting

Hong Kong bridge gets green light

Construction of one of the world's most ambitious infrastructure projects has received the go-ahead after Hong Kong, Macao and the western Chinese province of Guangdong reached financing deals for a HK$60bn bridge linking the three.

The 29.6km bridge, first proposed 25 years ago, will connect Hong Kong on the eastern side of the Pearl River with Macao and Zhuhai in the west to create a regional economic hub. It is expected to cut travel time between Zhuhai, in Guangdong, and Hong Kong from about three hours to 20 minutes, which advocates hope will draw investment to the west of the Pearl River.

While Hong Kong remains one of the world's most vibrant ports and the areas of Guangdong to its north are home to the factories behind much of China's recent economic boom, the western shore of the Pearl River has remained underdeveloped due to its difficult geographical access.

The three governments will be responsible for any difference between investment by the consortium that wins the bid to build the bridge and construction costs. Based on estimated economic benefits brought by the bridge to the cities, Hong Kong is to contribute 50.2 per cent of the shortfall, Guangdong 35.1 per cent and Macao 14.7 per cent.

Pretty interested in the 6, 7 and 9 things on the map.
6 and 9 prove that tourism will come to Lantau, and hopefully some hotels.
Number 7 looks like hotels or a possible HKDL extension, which could be connected by a bridge around the island and also through the existing one through the mountains. There also seems to be an extra strand of railway track, which leads to 'nowhere'. It could possibly mean that there might be a new station, or track leading back to the main line.
                        Good news, good news.
Chuck Norris decided to sell his urine as an energy drink. It is now known as 'Red Bull'.
