  • News Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis to open north of Shanghai

    Between Shanghai and Beijing, this new facility sounds one part Universal Hollywood and one part Dubailand.

    When completed in 2017, the Oriental Movie Metropolis will boast 20 sound stages, including the world's first underwater studio, a massive convention and exhibition complex, a sprawling shopping mall with an indoor amusement park and seven resort hotels.


    The project also will include a yacht club with 300 berths.

    China's richest man, property developer Wang Jianlin, raised the curtain on a planned 50 billion yuan ($8.17 billion) "motion-picture city" he described as the biggest-ever single investment in the movie and television industry.Property developer Wang Jianlin, 58, founder of Dalian Wanda Group, was surrounded by Hollywood stars John Travolta, Nicole Kidman and Catherine Zeta-Jones on Sunday as he launched his most ambitious project yet in the picturesque coastal city of Qingdao.

      Wow, it will be extremely interesting to see what it will look like when it's completely finished. I can only imagine what Dubailand will be like. Unbelievable.

        Wang sounds like a modern day Walt. His studio/themepark complex holds an exciting array of rides and entertainment. He's certainly going all out to promote it, with stars such as Travolta, Kidman and Zetsa-Jones at the announcement ceremony. 2017 isn't far away, which tells me that all the elements of the working studio park must be maticulously planned out.

        I'm anxious to here about the specific rides and attractions

          Its more when the richest man in China asks you to come out, you do it. Its how we get musicians playing birthday parties for dictators. That being said, this is ambitious, but Qingdao is a cool city.

            The radiation leaks from Japan's Fukishima Nuclear Plant wins that prize,yet you really don't hear much about that because the Japanese government doesn't want anybody to know just how dangerous it is to live in Japan these days. I would never want to get near Tokyo Disneyland as a result.
